PSP2 Rumored to Get Touch Screen, Dual Cameras, More

The PlayStation Portable 2 has long been rumored for what seems like forever now. The specs for it were apparently revealed before the PSPGo even came out. The device has been the subject of much speculation with artists renditions and more, although, no concrete evidence has indicated towards Sony revealing the successor to the PSP. However, if a new rumor is to be believed, the PSP2 is almost finalized and will be released sooner than you think.
According to VG247 a source is suggesting that it’s “99 percent” sure that the PSP2 won’t be featured at E3. The device has apparently been revealed to publishers and developers for a few months, and will feature two cameras as well as being touch-screen. The rumored facts regarding the PSP2 are below:
- Multiple British sources have confirmed that PSP2 NDAs have been in place at publishers and developers for many months.
- PSP2 has two cameras, one forward and one backward facing.
- It has a touch-screen, but apparently it has retained the trademark physical PlayStation buttons.
- UK sources were previously working towards a “2010″ release. This is now “2011″.
- “Could” be 3G-enabled, as opposed to the WiFi-only PSP go.
- Multiple PSP2 games are being made in Britain right now. Some have even already been canned.
- There have been “finished units” in the UK.
- When asked directly about reveal timing, one source said, “If the games were aiming for end 2010, beginning 2011, and now it’s a 2011 release, I’d say a gamescom or TGS announce for launch early next year”.
- A source said the machine is “fucking powerful,” being based on a four-core Cell CPU. PS3 runs on an eight-core version.
Of course, treat this strictly as a rumor, but we’ll update you if Sony comment on the speculation surrounding the PSP2.

Part of me doesn’t hope for a new PSP since I bought the PSP go last year, maybe in a couple of years, I mean I never bought a new DS, I still have my original version and now they announced a successor, so I’m glad I didn’t spend money on a new version of the DS.
So they are implying the next ‘fücking powerful’ handheld will be the Playstation Phone?…. wouldn’t a 4 core Cell CPU suck up a great amount of energy?
@ kick in ur face: good point about sucking up energy
less hardware more software for the PSP please.
OLED would be nice too
Ok to me a psp does not need a touch screen or dual cameras, stop trying to be like nintendo. And unless its gonna be like the psp go then what does it need a 3G network for?
if it has usb 3 and newer version of bluetooth and wifi n then im sold. o and it would be great if it was also 4g internet so it would be future proof maybe we could then be able to stream tv and compete in games (multiplayer)
There is no way that this is true. Seriously… no way.
1. Yay uncomfirmed sources.
2. 2 Cameras? They couldn’t even get the PSP camera add on to do well. They’re doing stuff with Invizimals but I highly doubt that they will release a PSP with 2 cameras. I know the DS does it, but the PSP2? Highly doubt it.
3. Touch screen? Maybe…
4. Ya cause we can really trust the UK anonymous sources. I mean… They don’t get screwed over at ALL by gaming manufacturers.
5. 3G enabled? Do you really think that they’re opening that box of worms? Having people pay to play on cell phone towers, especially when this is a japanese company where wifi is all over, not including the fact that it’s going to increase costs, and not everyone has the same company, plus you’ll have to have a subscription plan, etc… This is the one I have the biggest problem with.
6. Names, pics, or some sort of proof or it didn’t happen. I bet the PS4 has had some games cancelled from production. Doesn’t mean jack crap.
7. Pics or STFU anonymous source.
8. Quad Core Cell Processor? LMFAO. The PSP uses a 333 Mhz processor, they could EASILY bump that up to a 1Ghz processor and be fine with it. Especially since Sony doesn’t believe that the Cell processor is the future considering the fact that it’ makes things so hard to develop for and current rumors cite a Sony exec saying that next generation won’t be using the Cell, and all reports point to the Cell going away.
9. I’m surprised at their lack of consistency. I mean no “IT HAZ DUAL STICKZORZ!!!!!111!!”
Then again I was wrong about the slim, but nothing about this seems to settle. An early 2011 release? Highly doubt that. It’ll probably be late next year at the earliest. They still have a PSP 4k to release and a PSP Go to drop in price.
OH and this goes to the guy above me. There is no f’ing way that they’re doing USB 3.0 dude. No F’ing way. The adoption rates for the next few years are going to be too low, and USB 3.0 is being hailed as too little too late by most of the tech industry.
All that talk and the guy couldn’t tell us if it has the second analog stick or not? I’m not believing it lol.
but is it a phone? I want PSP Phone. I’m tired of my iPhone. I need real gaming on my phone.
Why do you guys keep posting that stupid, stupid picture with the futuristic-totally-impossible-to-use-PSP-rendering every time you talk about some rumors about PSP2?
You slapped the “treat this as nothing more than a rumor” at the end of an article filled with imaginary junk. You guys are aware that you’ve been doing that more and more lately, right? I know that rumors create buzz and that makes people stick around for details, but when all the articles are only about rumors and no facts at all, it gets somewhat annoying.
You simply are not interested in verifying all the rumors you’re writing about and that is just bad journalism. A few more articles like the one above and you’re going to lose one more reader.
@MakaiOokami
Future Proof like the ps3 bluray if they would have listen to you then we would not have had all of these great games that we have now.
hello …
that means i’ll not buy a PSP after all, if a number 2 is coming next year.
with SONY, when it’s a rumor, it’s true. if it looks like an April fool, it’s certainly not. if it’s too good to be true, well Kevin Butler would show you how better it is than the truth
I want a PSP2, with multiple accounts support, wifi + optional 3G+, USB / bluetooth, high performance CPU, high capacity internal memory + USB drive / high capacity SD card support. connectors like mini HDMI or DVI. HD media support, TV out support, Skype installed & with 3G+, act as a cell phone, JAVA & flash support (mobile phone games too would be great LOL), BC for Ps1/PS2 games
well i can dream huh!
cheers!
