Red Dead Redemption, the latest game by Rockstar, has recently been released to critical acclaim and great sales – so much so that infamous analyst Michael Patcher admitted he was wrong that a Western-themed game couldn’t sell in today’s market. This has resulted in a bit of a problem in the UK…
Various stores nationwide, including GAME, HMV, Tesco, and Asda are all sold out of PS3 copies of the game, at least at their retail locations. Most of these stores will still take orders online, though even online retail giant Amazon is currently only selling PS3 versions of the game via the third-party (consumer) marketplace. There have been reports that a sunken cargo ship is to blame for the PS3 shortage, though ShopTo’s CEO Igor Cipolletta specifically stated that he was “not aware of any cargo ship that sunk.” Anyone from the UK having trouble buying this stellar Western? Let us know in the comments below!
There was no red dead redemption at my local GAME, so I ordered online from amazon, it said “only 2 left in stock (more on the way) when I ordered, although I was getting the special edition.
I would have blamed it on Somali pirates instead of a sunken ship. It would have at least followed a good storyline for game sales. This is how “analysts” can mess up a good game but when the word of mouth hits the Internet you can’t stop demand. Maybe Pachter should go into palm reading it makes at least as much money for the same guessing you have to do about predicting the future of anything.
And RockStar needs to get the server farms beefed up since there will a lot of new players. Especially from Italy since they love their Clint Eastwood westerns and now they have a good game to fulfill those fantasies.
I met a couple of Irish guys that LOVED spaghetti westerns. I don’t know about the rest of the UK though. However, they did get The Good, The Bad, The Weird in the UK on blu-ray first.
wow would of never thought the UK would get into an good old American Western.
