The PlayStation Move, Sony’s extremely precise motion controller, is set to release this September. At an affordable price, Sony is paving the way for a multitude of developers to develop games that either would depend on the PlayStation Move, or allow gamers the option to use the Move as their controller. However, even with the mounting wave of excitement for the new controller, a SCEE senior researcher and the EyeToy creator, warns that Sony is not going to “force” developers to implement the new controller; the decision will be entirely up to them.
Richard Marks, the famed EyeToy creator and a SCEE senior researcher, spoke recently with CVG. In the interview, Marks cites Sony’s stance on the PlayStation Move and third party games. Marks says that Sony does not want to “force Move on to a game that it doesn’t make sense for.”
“I don’t want that to happen. I love the Move but it’s not the only controller on our platform. We have a great controller already – the DualShock – and some experiences are supposed to be used with that.
“A new set of experiences that use more special input – that’s what’s good for the Move. So I think our first-party will always continue to court both controllers.”
Adding:
“I do not want to see somebody just force the Move on to a game that it doesn’t make sense for.”
This certainly is comforting. Nothing is worse than seeing a game use a feature that feels rushed. Hopefully this will improve the quality of Move titles across the board. To see PlayStation LifeStyle’s impressions on the PlayStation Move, click here.
They gave the same option when it came to PSP games on PSN.
Look at where it’s at now….
Games are going up on the PS Store when the publishers feel like it or when people beg.
They did the same with trophies. Not many games had them until they made them mandatory.
I hope that they will make eyetoy play 4
Some things make sense to implement, while others don’t. Move should certainly get a lot of support though. SONY cannot do to MOVE what they did to the Eyetoy back in PS2 days.
I want to see fully fleshed out games that utilize MOVE from the ground up, and a lot of it. I’m looking forward to that sorcery game, it looks very promising. I’m hoping they are adding more movement commands, like doing certain movements to cast out more powerful spells. Simulating the “drinking potion” movement was pretty cool, you even heard the audience amazement at it when they watching it during SONY’s conference at E3
You know I hate this thing… But now that we have Portal 2 coming… This might actually be worth it for Portal alone. Not because portal is that good, but because they seem to fit together so well.
I have always said that Move can enhance specific game titles or genre. When you look at games that use Sword play or what I like to call Hack-n-Slash game mechanics then the Move would be a perfect fit. What I can’t see is Move for GT5 etc.
But MOVE will succeed when “Body Motion” control failed on PS2.
@InfinitiProject
l agree with you. l’m gald they made trophies mandatory. Look at the background music, Sony didn’t make it mandatory now only .01% of games use this. Can’t trust them; they will just be lazying around and not do it
Well I’m actually glad background music was not made mandatory. it should be upto the developers to be in control of the music, to allow custom music, when and where. The day that a producer can say, well everyone just has custom music, we can cut some costs on the soundtrack, is a sad day. custom music is great for psn games, and majority of them are enabled, but not for fully fledged experiences.
Good. MOVE don’t really need half ass attempts just to please SONY
Good to hear. Even though I am interested in Move it is nice to know they won’t be forcing it.
if anything I can’t stand the colours on the damn thing, they’re like baby/easter pastels. something your easter egg looks like after you paint it. but I am excited for whatever game companies can come up with to put this thing to use because it has a lot of potential for some seriously kick ass games (especially a Star Wars lightsaber battle game… *drool*)
good, I hope this keeps us away from gimmicky games, although I’m sure we’ll still see some.
