Cross-platform multiplayer is a feature rarely seen. But if Valve has its way, it could be coming to a PS3 near you.
Valve developer Erik Johnson has revealed a nifty little piece of information for those future Portal 2 owners. At this point in time Johnson says Valve is “planning” on allowing PS3 players of the game to play with PC/Mac users. This is undoubtedly because of the PS3′s touted openness to develop. Steam and Steamworks will be a major part of the coordinated effort.
What’s most exciting about this announcement, is that if it all goes well, Valve could provide any of their franchises with this cross-platform capability on the PlayStation 3. It looks like this will be just one of the many reasons that will make “the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 best version on any console. As for the Xbox 360, Johnson said that there were no plans for Steamworks to come to the console, but that the decision ultimately lies with Microsoft. I’m liking the sound of this, does this mean we could be getting games from valve in the future that will have mod support similar to the ps3′s unreal tournament 3?
I’m glad to see valve taking the ps3 seriously now, this can only be good for the ps3′s future.
I bet MS follows suit after this takes off and makes them look stupid and non-innovative.
hello …
cross-platform gaming will always be welcome, now Valve talking my language
cheers!
it’s impossible on the 360 to have Steam
I wonder if Steam Games will start to offer the ability to unlock PS3 trophies on the PC version alongside Steam Achievements, or if (even better) we can play games we own on Steam (valve games) on PS3 at no cost.
This is why Steam is my favorite platform for the most part.
I can get behind this. most def
hello …

yay this means future updates on ps3 valve games. unlike the orange box, great game, could have been better with all of those updates
I never played Portal 1 but after reading such news, I think I’ll play that to keep up with the story in P2.
Well it was complete shock and lots of excitement to hear Portal 2 is coming to PS3. That made my year. Also glad to hear Valve considering other possibility’s from there library coming to the PS3. Unreal 3 did show how mods can work on Ps3 and leaves the possibility’s wide open for the Valve community to run with it.
yay!
