Gran Turismo 5 Could Have Become PS4 Title

07/12/2010 Written by Zak Islam

Polyphony Digital has reiterated on several occasions that Gran Turismo 5 is so big in terms of depth and quality, it could be a next-gen game. The developers has once again said the sheer level of detail and level of precision makes Gran Turismo 5 more suitable for next generation machines.

Polyphony Digital CEO and Gran Turismo creator, Kaz Yamauchi, told OPM:

The level of precision we’ve achieved [in GT5] is actually more suited to the next generation of machines.

In addition, the famed developer spoke about the racing simulators’ 200 premium cars:

The detail that goes into a premium model [has] gone beyond the level of the current PlayStation.

Intriguing news for the gaming world, of course. However, unfortunately, the wait for PlayStation 3 owners has only become more anxious.

You really can’t help think – with the game being described as such a detailed game that it could become a PS4 title – that PS3 owners and gamers alike are in for a real treat. Speed on November.

  1. I remember when gran turismo 4 first came out, i thought it had ps3-like graphics, there was a video game magazine which showed pictures of the game’s tracks side by side with it’s real-life counterparts.

“has gone beyond the level of the current playstation”

Maybe that’s why they only did it for 200 of them and gimped the other 800….

  3. KwietStorm says:

I’m still unclear as to what exactly differentiates premium models from normal ones.

  4. @Kwiet

I believe the difference is that the premium models will all have the in-car view down to the tinyest detail of the real-life car. I’m not sure if the other cars will offer the in-car view. Also I read a few weeks ago that some of the car models were just upresed from GT4?

“gimped” is a rather strong word when the ALL cars look equally great outside and inside. The only difference between those 200 “premium” models and the rest, is that the premium cars have completely demorfable (breakable) interiors. The in-car view of the cars shown in the GT5 PROLOGUE models (2008) STILL vastly surpasses what the closest competition offers. Forza 3 (late 2009) interiors look like crap, and the overall visual quality of the game can’t match Prologue’s, almost two years later. GT5 is shaping up to be the best graphics of this generation, make no mistake about it.

If this game doesn’t come out this gen, I’m just gonna have to pass on the franchise for jerking me around. Nobody does that except for my woman, lol.

  7. Oh Jesus Christ, this game finally has a release date after five years and now they say “it could have been a PS4 game.”

    The arrogance of these guys….

  8. giese095 says:

Natiej85 – I think you are misreading this article. The game is coming out this year, it has an official release date. They are just saying it is so good it could pass for a PS4 game.

nuclearwarfare – Arrogance? How about….they have been working on it for 5 years, it SHOULD look like a PS4 game.

  9. it better be good after this long wait they been making us wait.

  10. Meghterb says:

Let’s hope it’s worth the wait.

I got a feeling that it’ll be a “bit” better than Forza 3.

  11. I’d be confident too if I felt I had the best in the racing game genre after a lot of hard work. Its good to be confident in your work – if you’re not, you’re probably doing it wrong. I wouldn’t call it arrogant until they out right say “we’re better than forza 3 and anything else you can throw at us”. Right now they’re just saying “Hey, we put a hell of a lot into this”, which more or less is a decent explanation for the repeated delays.

  12. Silenus says:

Almost 1000 cars but only 200 are of a quality that appears, from what I’ve seen, to be current generation quality of games like Forza 3, GT5P, and Shift. The others aren’t nearly of that quality. Perhaps they should have just concentrated on making, say, three or four hundred cars of high quality instead of giving us 1000?

  13. the differences in the premium cars and the other 800 is simple interior things. The premium ones will have a much more true to life replication of the cars interior. Where as the non-premium ones will not look as true to life interior and exterior wise.

  14. claass21 says:

Day before release- “just kidding guys its actually delayed to PS4″

  15. FiftyQuid says:

Ship it. Let me play it. Then I’ll judge whether it is PS4 worthy.
