I think its about time for someone to phone up Don King and get him over here as there might be a fight brewing on our hands. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, DoubleFine’s Tim Schafer spoke out about Activision head man Bobby Kotick, calling him a “total prick” and a “dick.” These words from Schafer could possibly have something to do with the fact that Activision was originally going to publish Brutal Legend, only to drop out at the last second and leave Schafer and company to find a new suitor named EA.
“His obligation is to his shareholders,” Schafer said. “Well, he doesn’t have to be as much of a dick about it, does he? I think there is a way he can do it without being a total prick. It seems like it would be possible. It’s not something he’s interested in.”
He added: “[Kotick] makes a big deal about not liking games, and I just don’t think that attitude is good for games in general. I just don’t think we’re an industry of widgets.
“We can approach it like we approach bars of soap, where you’re just trying to make the cheapest bar of soap. He definitely has that that kind of widget-maker attitude. I don’t think he’s great for the industry, overall. You can’t just latch onto something when it’s popular and then squeeze the life out of it and then move on to the next one. You have to at some point create something, build something.
“Hopefully he’ll go back to another industry scene. He could go to an industry that makes more money. Ball bearings… something that suits his passions more. Weapons manufacturing?”

Oh dear.
Thank you, that’s exactly what I was saying. This guy hates what he is doing and just outright gives that impression. Yet we as gamers support this guy. I have no beef with him but he has no passion for the industry. I’m not the only one that see’s that he’s just cranking out shit, no innovation, just generic rehashes and like sheeple most people eat it up.
Honestly I don’t even think its because of him, but more so people have to be on the bandwagon, have to be the ones’ to say yeah I got that, or look I have this new map pack for MW2. Look at me and how cool I am. I can’t be the only one who sees this. At first that might have been acceptable, but he realizes it too hence why he gets away with asking $15 bones for maps…
Use this for an example. World of Warcraft, oddly enough…under activision. Charges the consumer what 14.99 mo to play their game. Its hours upon hours of play time. MW2 map packs…come on do you really think a map expansion should be worth that much money.
We as consumers need a gamer group. A group of people here to talk sense into the gamers not the fckin industry…ourselves, as we ultimately hold the power. I’m not talking about a snobbish group but seriously a group that sees the BS and says HELL No!!!
In this economy hell for the rest of your life, you can’t afford to be stupid and naive.
Just my 2cents.
Said it before and will again THE GUY IS A TOTAL PRICK lolol T.S is spot on!
hahahahahahahaha…. ahhhhh that made my morning. I mean, I’ve been saying it for a while, but its nice to hear that someone popular in the industry is publicly saying it too. Thanks Schafer.
@Graey – Isn’t that what we sort of try to do here a little bit? Read about current gaming trends, then hopefully discuss it in a logical, orderly, and polite manner? Sure, we fail from time to time, you’ll get the close minded fanboy every once in a while… but if you pay attention, these nonsensical things are easy to see.
in other news water is wet and EA will drop a Madden game every year
You just have to wonder if hearing these sort of comments about himself has any affect on Kotick or if he is so evil that he just doesn’t care at all
@geise – hes not evil. He’s just a prick. Theres a bit of a difference…. right?
hmmm… funny how p rick is censored when I type it, but it’s in the title of the article…
i agree with lemmy78
Well he is. Enough said
