Get your archeology gear packed and your hair braided, PS3 owners will be seeing a return of one of the most legendary heroines ever to grace a gaming console. But don’t pack too quickly – it looks like she might be held up a bit due to some exclusive terms with Microsoft.
Developers at Crystal Dynamics, informed Eurogamer that Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light will be making a timed exclusive appearance on the Xbox360. When asked about the release date of the Lara Croft platformer, Crystal Dynamics had a schedule in mind that they wanted to meet.
“We have requested a specific date and hopefully we’ll get that and it’s not too long after the 360 SKU. The agreement with Microsoft is, in order to participate in their hugely successful Summer of Arcade promotion, there is a window of exclusivity. That window of exclusivity is a set four weeks.”
Overall, this shouldn’t be considered as bad news, since there will be time for PS3 owners to properly preview the Xbox release to see if Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light will be something that they would be interested in.
Check out the Tomb Raider Trailer in the meantime until we find more news or bring you a solid release date for 2011.

It’s a bit disappointing as I was kinda looking forward to it. Also this will most likely mean the 360 will be better than the PS3 one. I’ll check more reviews and videos when it’s out, if the PS3 version is worse in anyway, I’m not buying it.
Doesn’t necessarily mean it will be worse on PS3…this is only a month long exclusive, so I think you can wait that long.
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! Without a certain………….erm………….electronics company of which i forget the na- SONY, that’s it Sony- Lara Croft’s creators would be working in a supermarket stocking shelves, yet here they are feeding the 360 with games that have playstation running thru the interns of its code.
Not that i care really, cos come on, Tomb Raider is like soooooo two gens of hardware ago! lol
Oh My Giddy Aunt………. This is lame central! Fail Fail Fail..!
Shitty port ahoy…! They wanna give xclusiv time to Eggbox… Well i now wanna give their game time to f’ off……. IDIOTS!
i don’t really care about tomb raider uncharted stole the spotlight and probably get used like underworld
I was a little disappointed at reading about more stupid timed exclusivity but after reading the article I can understand why they did it, it makes sense for them to do in this instance.
@ Karum
What do you mean you understand why they did it? Why they did what exactly? M$ want timed exclusivity is all thats happened, nothing to do with doing it so the PSN community can decide whether they like it or not before buying.
Basically im seeing it as M$ strarting to become the whipping boys of the current gen, and in their desperation they are using downloadable games for exclusives, which tbh is really rather lame on their behalf!
That’s fine – after playing Underworld I’m certainly in no hurry to get this one. Probably never will to be perfectly honest.
noooo!
No, not really.
hello …
if it do turn out good on the PS3, it will be my 1st Lara on console, i’ve stopped long time ago following her, mostly on PC .. for even if i owned the 1st games, i never played any.
cheers!
meh, one month. Considering Lara’s most recent outings, is anybody really that worried about it?
The PS3 fanboy in me is pissed off while the overally gamer just wondered why I should bother. Uncharted is esstinatial a better version of Tomb Raider and if your a TR fan then surely shouldn’t you be pissed off that Microsoft still have exclusivity over the DLC for the last Tomb Raider?
But yeah it’s starting to get annoying how most of these companies siding with Microsoft on exclusivity were brought into the gaming industry by Sony. It’s like they don’t give a crap about the history they have with their ex-publisher.
I hope Insomniac don’t have any plans to follow the same route.
They are not siding with Microsoft on exclusivity, the devs are siding with money. This is further proof that Microsoft has no faith in their product and that the Xbox is utter shit. Microsoft has a small handful of titles PS3 doesnt (and even smaller amount that anyone would care about), and NEEDS to get these tiny exclusivity deals to get any kind of advantage over Sony. They are sinking quick and Kinect is NOT going to save them.
Personally I could give a shit about what they get before us, so long as our version isnt dumbed down for the Xbox port, and we are getting the game at all. Not to mention that the games that have been ‘top of the list’ for most PS3 users is to big and beautiful for a shitty xbox to handle. They want the 40th Tomb Raider to themselves for a month? HA! so what?! that last one sucked an ass and they previous couple werent exactly masterpieces either. I would love to see Microsoft get a game better than Uncharted, or more beautiful than Heavy Rain. Hell, that shitbox couldnt even handle Flower
let those dopes have their month, the only way an Xbox owner is getting games as good as what PS3 has to offer is if they go and buy a PS3.
Flower? I thought they didn’t want it, I normally don’t succumb to fanboyish remarks (no offence) but that is pretty weak for a console.
No, Xbox couldnt handle flower because to many individual things were moving independently. their CPU and GPU couldnt process the images. I come across as fanboyish (and I’ve learned to not care) but the truth is, I HATE how much publicity Xbox gets for a system that just is not up to par. Microsoft is a shitty company and has been for decades and their only success is that nobody really tried to best them in making a OS that works. Microsoft has been for 20+ years what Apple has been with the last 3 iterations of the iPhone… utter shit.
Does Sony ever fail? sure… look at the mini disk, beta max video, and other things I cant think of right now. But they do NOT constantly and consistently fail their devoted fans while jamming new versions of their old shit into peoples laps and suggesting that it is the best thing ever. I loath Microsoft for its marketing and business tactics and overall for its inability to ever put out a quality product.
Kinect, Natel, whatever they want to call it, it is old technology slightly revamped and without seeing it in action (with the exception of some clearly faked videos) their fans are ready to buy it up. and the media is all over it like the Wii never existed and the PS2 hasnt had an eye toy before.
Nothing would make me happier than if Microsoft went bankrupt and finally went away for good.
