Red Dead Redemption is the leading contender for Game of the Year. The game received amazing reviews (we gave it a perfect score!), combined with phenomenal sales. But how has John Marston fared against the rest of his competition in 2010 thus far? With the year being halfway over, we’re taking a quick gander at which games have sold the most up until this point in the year, according to NPD. Check out which games came out on top…
Red Dead Redemption is sitting pretty (and gritty) on top. Despite a huge buzz from the gaming media, many wouldn’t have believed that the wild west shooter would topple the likes of New Super Mario Bros, Modern Warfare 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and every other game released in or before 2010.
Other notables on the list is Modern Warfare 2 sitting at number 3, just one slot ahead of FPS competitor Battlefield Bad Company 2. This isn’t a real surprise since Modern Warfare 2 is very popular, but with it selling so much around the holidays last year you would think that due to the market being fully saturated already, that Battlefield could have topped it.
We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that nothing will be able to catch up to Red Dead Redemption and the Kentucky Saddler Marston has rode to the top of the sales chart, at least not in 2010. What games, if any, do you think will be able to knock Rockstar’s gem out from the top spot? Let us know in the comments below!
i really want this game but i’m waiting for the right price in Canadian stores.
This game really is overrated… The story was predictable and the mechanics severely flawed and rough… While the online had a good premiss it was severely lacking in content.
Red Dead smokes the competition and so do i so join now are die later bia!!!
And @ Blkant
Are you kidding me man……..red dead has 1 of the most robust online multiplayer ever and it has all been free so far with much more paid dlc coming soon.
RDR is fun and all but I think LBP 2 will take this lead with in the 1st month.
@Blkant
I agree that the game is overrated.
The online open-world lobby was an innovation, but it was unfinished and that got old QUICK. I ran around with my friends twice killing mobs and got bored (by the way, they didn’t. I always logged out first).
Then there’s the griefing. Actually RDR is the perfect metaphor for why I think online shooters are stupid. I used to say things like “At its worst, online PVP is like the wild west!” Now it actually is. No rules, and easy-to-please gamers firing bullets until they get bored of it. And ‘whoa’ to the gamer that doesn’t get bored of that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the game, there were some moments where I was roping a wild horse as the
rain fell & the thunder was cracking, or finally making it to Mexico and the music kicks in etc.
A lot of what I liked about the game had nothing to do with shooting.
If I’m trying for a rank and people are too trigger happy around me, I just switch to a private
server. If you get with a good posse the multi-player is a blast, but thats true of any game.
@SolidCake_
I agree its the little things in this game that makes it amazing and really brings out your imagination and makes you feel a part of it.
I think anyone who finds this game boring is really just a boring person.
The game is overrated. I was actually surprised (and a bit disappointed) to read you guys here at PSLS gave it a perfect score. The game looks amazing for the most part, but it’s riddled with glitches and speed bumps. The game never really picked up much momentum, and in single player, what little momentum there was in the story mode was lost when you have to, YOU MUST ride half way across the map listening to some annoying, over-acting character blather on about who gives a damn… I just don’t see how anyone- any gamer with skill- can still play the game any longer, on or offline.
