MAG to Receive a Massive Action Patch This August

07/28/2010 Written by The Great Thomasio

Since MAG hit earlier this year, it is one of the few games that keeps on giving to those who joined in on the Shadow War. Everything from free DLC to paid DLC, to various patches, the MAG team over at Zipper Interactive has shown some massive support for their 256-player fragfest. Awesome news for all you MAGers out there: Zipper Interactive has just announced patch v.1.07 and you’re in for quite a tasty treat of updates and fixes with their latest update.

Hitting during the first week of August, patch v.1.07 will implement the following:

  • A double XP ”Happy Hour” is being introduced. For the first hour of every 24-hours you play the game will reward you with double XP. How sweet is that?!
  • Suppression mode will be following in the footsteps of Sabotage mode by becoming ‘faction neutral’.
  • Improved coding for downloading patches to decrease the overall time.
  • Flores Basin (Raven) and Alyeska Terminus (Valor) Domination maps are receiving makeovers to fix exploits and add news obstacles to spice things up a bit.
  • Remember how everyone complained that MAG’s graphics are ‘ugly’ however at times it’s pushing 256-players on screen at once? Zipper Interactive is making improvements to the lighting engine to give everything a more realistic look and feel. Sweeet.
  • Miscellaneous ‘fixes and updates’ to improve the overall MAG experience.

If you’ve been wondering if you should journey to your local MAG ‘recruitment station’ (aka your favorite game store) to join the battle , check out our review for MAG.

For those of you  who (still) own MAG, do you still represent your faction on a weekly basis or have you resigned from the Shadow War? If so, will the latest update recruit you back to the battlefield?

    an update in graphics is pretty rare after a game releases, good work Zipper.

    Its nice Zipper is doing this stuff but it seems a little too late. There is no one playing MAG anymore (less then a 1,000 people per night) and they should have done all this stuff pre-release so people would have kept thier interest in the game instead of leaving.

    This is part of the gaming cycle. Get new game play till bored, buy new game get bored again, buy newer game get bored again. The problem is player loyalty to the game not the game developer adding new maps and fixing things that players want.

    Players are too AD/HD to be satisfied with playing one game until it really dies a natural sequel death.

    I’m still rocking MAG, I’m one trophy away from getting that Platinum.
    Having said that…

    @LaZyTiMe

    Dude what game you playing? The Domination numbers alone add up to over 1000 (at night). There’s still people playing this game, obviously if the game is getting the immense amount of support that it’s getting from its developers.

    Damn,

    Haven’t played this game since the week it came out. I just don’t like the whole online part without single player, though I do like the game. Can’t wait till Socom comes out I’m all over that single player experience.

    That being said I like how they keep up with the updates. I can respect that.

  6. Mag still has a MASSIVE ACTION GAMING community and thats why zipper continues 2 support it but what upsets me is the fact that these developers make patch updates to these unique fps like Mag and killzone to please the little call of booty modern whorefair players and basically alienate the true players who actually play the game and want a unique shooter while those guys whining about if they make this game like MW2 I would like it still don’t play it.

    @Graey

    Silly gamer 1st person shooters are for multiplayer.

    After this update, I think I can justify popping this game back in.
    And I love this game, but it was at a point where I just couldn’t play it anymore.

    It was seriously waiting 15-30 minutes to get into a game, then losing withing 5 minutes.
    Completely waste of my time.

    But with these “faction neutral” maps, I hope that should fix those issues.

    I would very much like to play this again.

  8. man i dont care what folks say about this game. i think its a real good game and i play every night. thanks zipper for the update. this can be only done on the playstation!!!!

    Before the DLC was released there was like 3,000 people on a night so I figured by now it was down to 1,000 but heck 3,000 people are good I guess. If I was Zipper I would stop wasting resources to cater to 3,000 people. They should divert those resources over to the Socom 4 team and make sure that game is complete on Day 1, unlike MAG.

    I still play the game on a weekly basis. Happy Hour is going to make play MAG every day.

  11. MAG will be played for a long time. just like warhawk that was online only. If Zipper can keep the game play fresh, this can go on for awhile.
