SOCOM 4, the first game in the series to arrive on the PS3 that is developed by Zipper Interactive — the talented team responsible for creating the long-standing franchise — has been long pegged for a holiday 2010 release date. It was also set to be one of the first “hardcore” games to released this year that supports Sony’s upcoming motion controller, the PlayStation Move. However, news just in from the battlefield is, SOCOM 4 won’t be deployed until next year.
Yes it’s true. SOCOM 4 will not be releasing in the 2010 calender year like initially planned.
Over at the official SOCOM 4 website, Zipper Interactive’s Senior Community Manager, Jeremy Dunham broke the sad news:
“Dear SOCOM faithful,
Some of you may have heard through your favorite media outlets that SOCOM 4 is now a 2011 title, and we are writing this letter to you, our community, to confirm that SOCOM 4 is indeed scheduled for release in 2011.While we’re certainly aware that you’ve been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don’t want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we’re going to use our extra time to do just that.
Over the coming months, you can expect further updates on our 2011 release, in addition to other gameplay and feature announcements on the official SOCOM 4 blog, which can be found at blog.socom.com.
On behalf of everyone here at Zipper Interactive, we want to thank you for being patient and thank you for sticking with us — it will be worth the wait.
Sincerely,
The SOCOM 4 Team”
While anything worth playing is worth waiting for, we can’t help but be disappointed that there is now a “hardcore” void in Sony’s 2010 PlayStation Move line-up. On the bright side, if Zipper’s last game — MAG — is anything to go by, you can fully expect one hell of a multiplayer experience backed by tons of community support when SOCOM 4 finally releases in 2011.
What are your feelings about SOCOM 4′s delay? How will this affect PlayStation Move’s launch for you hardcore gamers out there? Let us know in the comments below…
It would have been better if they would have done this before the “Media” leaked it out…
This sucks, but if its for improvements then I am fine with this.
Sort of sucks since that means there are pretty much no hardcore games coming out for PS Move till 2011.
Personally I had no real interest in getting this game, but I wanted something to tide me over till Killzone 3.
no interest zerocool327? Zipper and SOCOM invented the online multiplayer world! Of course being third person rather than first makes it a different experience than a Call of Duty or Battlefield, but in my opinion there will never be a war sim game better than the original SOCOM and certainly no team based war game better than SOCOM 1…if anything does top it though, I hope SOCOM 4 is it.
I don’t have anything against 3rd person shooters, but I have no interest in actually buying the game now. It will end up just being a rental most likely.
Also sorry to inform you, but the PC invented the online multiplayer world.
At least Socom 4 will have extra time to make the game awesome. I think 2010 is just too early with Medal of Honor and COD coming out in the fall.
Im looking forward to this game, so Its all good if I have to wait a bit longer.
I purchased SOCOM: Confrontation the other day at gamestop during that 50% off sale they had, but I haven’t had a real chance to play it yet with NCAA Football 2011 taking up my time. Anyone think it’s good?
So now my move purchase has moved to next year…
Move is for hardcore gamers is it LOL well not this year it aint..
Sony & friends are the kings of build up ‘n’ hype then crash ‘n’ burn.. So far we have fight & that party game & a sports title… this is all looking so wii its untrue… think i’ll stick to the best coni ever made THE DUALSHOCK…
Good. Just means we’ll get a better game.
I bet this has everything to do with the new CoD coming out, everyone is going to start pushing their games back because they are scared to release it within the same time frame as Black Ops
@nuclearwarfare
SOCOM Confrontation is unfortunately a total shite fest of a game! But it’s worth a cheap, CHEAP price if you fancy appreciating all your other online games a whole lot more. SlantSix totally messed up the last SOCOM game even though they worked on it for about 3 years or so. Let’s hope Zipper can restore the SOCOM name to the quality title it was on PS2.
