Respawn Action to Shake Things Up at QuakeCon

08/01/2010 Written by Ray Conley

Only a few months have passed since shake up at Infinity Ward, followed by the shake down of its top executives, Jason West and Vince Zampella.  Not much has been heard from them since they gave birth to Respawn Entertainment shortly after their departure from IW, but it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer once QuakeCon takes off.

Some top heads over at Bethseda, Nick Breckon and Pete Hines, made an attempt at some “cryptic” messages through facebook and twitter, concerning some appearances at this years QuakeCon.  Per the twitter post, it seems pretty obvious who we should definitely expect to welcome onto the stage this year.

(CLUE: Pay attention to the capital letters)

This will be the first public appearance that Jason West and Vince Zampella will be making since their ousting from Infinity Ward.  Their appearance can also be confirmed on the official list of speakers found on QuakeCon’s webpage.  Could they be announcing their first IP from Respawn?  Looks like we’ll have to sit tight until August 12th when QuakeCon officially kicks off.

QuakeCon (named from it’s IRC channel “#quakecon”) was started back in 1996 by two people, with only 100 people in attendance by the end of the event.  What started as a simple BYOC (bring your own computer) event, QuakeCon has erupted into a major gaming event, now hosting over 7000 gamers in Texas by big name sponsors, with cash prizes awarded to tournament winners.  Perhaps we can confidently add Respawn Entertainment to that growing list of sponsors.

We’ll be eagerly awaiting what Respawn wants to say to the gaming masses when QuakeCon rolls out from August 12th – 15th.

I feel bad for these guys but I’m not sure if I’d be buying their game purely becasue their the underdog. Meh either way now at least I can enjoy a game (most of) the guys at infinity ward make without having to pay out £55.00 or having to put up with annoying glitches because their dumb ass boss wanted a christmas release.
