For quite a while now, Irrational Games has been teasing a new project with their “whatisicarus” teaser site. The site has now been updated revealing BioShock Infinite and to coincide with the reveal, 2K Games and Irrational Games have spilled the beans on all the new details the game features. Here’s what we know so far…
Taking the role of protagonist, Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton agent sent to the lost city of Columbia, you’ll be tasked with rescuing Elizabeth, a young woman held captive among the mysterious floating city in the sky. The game features new weapons, abilities, and an entirely new engine, with epic battles taking place among the clouds or indoors of Columbia, a floating city symbolizing America’s rise as a world power that has disappeared into the clouds.
Check out the screens below as well as BioShock Infinite’s official reveal trailer.
WOW! just watched the trailer… thats one crazy way to take the series, and one that seemed so obvious! I love bioshock, and got into the story in both games, so i’ll be getting this for sure!
Wow, this looks amazing.
will there be talking dogs?…
joking aside, this looks interesting and beautiful, but I’ll wait ’till I see the game in motion, the only problem is that now I need to play bioshock 2…
I knew that symbol was the Infinite sign! looks pretty sick
Woah. Set in the air? Awesome, I hope Columbia has an good backstory to it like Rapture did. Most people who played the first two games will know that’s what made them so awesome.
On a lighter not, this game has to have the song “Somewhere over the rainbow”
Part 2 was sort of disappointing since it felt more like an expansion as it stayed in the same city as the first. A new locale is just what this game needs. This is a day one preorder for me.
To be fair they did make a whole city and it was kinda cool seeing more of Rapture though now for me I’m kinda glad they changed to a new city before Rapture got boring.
There’s a few things they need to cover like for instance: How the heck did the Big Daddie technology end up in columbia? Also are the people who made this aware there’s already a place called Columbia?
Odd, I just installed Bioshock 2 last night and I haven’t gotten around to playing it yet. Suddenly I have a pressing need to revisit Rapture
That video is pretty awesome. Suddenly very psyched for a new Bioshock in a new location…
They have a lot of work to do after that sequel debacle.
Looks bad ass, but I’ve never even touched the first two, but after that right there. I’ll really be considering this title.
a lil confused is this bio shock 3 or no? i liked bioshock 2 alot.
@abercrombie
its bioshock 3, but its set before the rapture games
Sold!
I love the title too, but now I kind of think they should kept the original title for the second game “Bioshock: Sea of Dreams” instead of calling it the more generic “Bioshock 2″.
Oh, and I must be one of the minority who really liked Bioshock 2 and thought it was an improvement in a lot of ways over the 1st game. I can’t wait to go back to that universe. Hopefully it’ll come out next year…
Yeah I thought the same, also how do we know it’s set before the first two games? Did they give a date?
@timewarp – i believe they said its set in the early 1900′s

“In terms of a specific date, Gerritsen told us to think around the time of July 4, 1912″ ( from cnet news)
Cool. They probably did it to stop people for asking about what happened to Rapture. I reckon what happened is the rest of The Family waited for a while then suddenly one of them went “Wait a minute we are helping her? That bitch is gonna get her daughter back and we could all drown!”
well this is pretty sweet right here. I don’t understand how it could be a prequel – there was a lot of misinformation spread around that BS2 was going to be a prequel as well, but none of the details make sense with that. Regardless, I can’t wait to hear more about this one.
Mid. Night. Release.
