As Sony’s motion controller, the PlayStation Move, approaches its release date which is only a mere few weeks away, Sony Computer Entertainment senior vice president Ray Maguire has commented on how he expects the commercial side of things will turn out for the PlayStation Move on its launch day.
Maguire was speaking with Eurogamer at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival and said he wasn’t expecting a massive day one success for Sony’s upcoming motion controller.
“Move is a natural extension in the same way as we brought EyeToy to PS2.Exactly as with EyeToy in the PS2 days, it’s a product that needs to be sampled. You need to get your hands on it. You need to understand it. You need to try it.
Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly. We didn’t with EyeToy, either. It went on to be massively successful. As people saw the value when they tried it they told their friends. Their friends bought it. They told their friends. Word of mouth grew the marketplace. That’s what I expect from Move as well.”
The PlayStation Move will be releasing on the 15th of September for European territories while North America receive the upcoming motion-sensing game controller on the 19th.
It will not be a massive success in general not just day one but it will be more succesful than Eye Toy and as it seems also from Kinect.
Most gamers especially hardcore aren’t interested in motion controls.
I don’t think Move will sell more PS3s. Only PS3 owners will buy it.
I want it day one so bad. I have no problem with the party games, and I want all of the “hardcore” games supported (K3, SOCOM4, etc) anyways…
Noctis – you are correct with most of what you said but I would change it a little and say, Most gamers aren’t interested in Wii-like motion controls. I have never been, and I will never be, interested in the Wii. The Move however is far superior and much more realistic using actual motion rather than simplified actions to command games.
None of us will know until we actually get some hands on time with Move, but I for one have very high hopes and expectations for the Move and if it truly does feel “real” I hope that it becomes the new standard for gaming…although all those couch potatoes out there that refuse to get up and move to play games will slow the progress a little bit. As well as all those self-conscious, low self-esteem individuals out there who are afraid they might look silly moving their arms around while playing games. As long as you are having fun who cares how you look, if you look like a dumb a$$ it’s because you are one, not because the Move is making you look like one.
It’s a day one buy for me MAG, RE5, Heavy Rain, SC4, time crisis, maybe the shoot, either way there is more than enough in just the first two months to justify the purchase. I’ll pick up the bundle and play some sports with the fam and maybe a few other party games.
I cant say that im excited for this. Not until I try it out for myself anyway. However, I do hope that it significantly adds something new and innovative to games that will support it. If not, ill just stick to the control pad. But so far its caught my interest more than I thought it would.
And don’t shove it off after a few runs with it either. A lot of people “need” a physical keyboard, but what they really mean is they are used to that tactile feedback and do not have the patience to adjust to a soft-keyboard. It may be a bit off putting at first, but I guarantee that on e you get used to a new form of input, it’ll feel natural, if not better.
My issue is I’m seeing more and more examples if the Move games not doing 1:1 co trol, but do more of a set pr
Oops.
As I was saying…
It seems that games like Lights Out and that arena fighting game used preprogrammed gestures to determine your attack. It’s not true 1:1. I’d like to see the options and settings these games have, though… Maybe it’s there somewhere…
hello…
it’s weird but i think differently, maybe not on day 1, but certainly will sell a lot on day 2
… it will not MOVE more PS3, but in the future, MOVE bundle will be a standard & in the long run a lot of people will have at least a pair of the controllers. Now i’m not saying they’ll use them constantly.
cheers!
It will be interested to see what the sales of this thing are like. Will they win over some Wii owners as they hope, or will it just be current PS3 owners buying the thing? Only time will tell I guess
Day one buy for me!!!
