Car lovers (and blurry-cam haters) out there, you may want to avert your gaze, because some recent off-screen pictures have surfaced showcasing the damage modeling that will come with the retail version of Gran Turismo 5. This marks the first time the popular racing series will ever showcase damage to the cars within the game. Take a look after the break, but don’t say we didn’t warn you!
The damage is done procedurally, which is just a fancy term for on-the-fly. So every crash can, and will likely result in, different wrinkles in your automobile’s armor. The images in the gallery below were apparently taken at a Best Buy, where demo kiosks of the game are already being set up. Enjoy!
Gran Turismo 5 is set to release this November 2nd for North America, 3rd for Europe and Japan, and the 4th for Australia.
Looks realistic
This looks a lot better than what I had imagined.
They should really show this off more, all the crashes I’ve seen on their videos looked like crap… In any case, I would have been happier with crashing just left out honestly… -_
Also, if I’m not mistaken, damage models also very quite drastically between the pro models and standard models, so the more detailed cars will have more detailed damage, vs. the less detailed cars will have less damage detail etc…
You PSL you shouldn’t use real images to promote a video game.
Those look really interesting, “But”, will the physics of the car be affected so that when you damage your car it slows you down and makes it hard to control? Especially when online in Multi-player races, that has been my “Pet Peve” ever since Prologue was released as an early look at the game.
