For those of you that just couldn’t get enough of the smash-hit film Inception, and would love to delve into the dream world via your favorite game console, the film’s director, Christopher Nolan, wants to make your dream of playing a dream… a reality (sounds weird, we know).
Speaking with Variety earlier this week, Nolan stated the following:
“One thing we are looking at doing is developing a video game based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can’t fit into a feature film, that’s something we’ve been talking about and are looking at doing long-term, in a couple of years.”
The mere fact that Nolan is looking to release the game after the film, indicates that there aren’t any deadlines to meet, and may end up resulting in a much better product. With the “inception” of 3D gaming over the past few months along with the release of PlayStation Move, whoever ends up developing the title could surely have a field day in the peripheral and special effects department. We look forward to seeing a potential AAA game based off of a AAA movie, as games based off of movies are often the object of ridicule and overall gaming disgust.
Be sure to stay tuned to PlayStation LifeStyle, as we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear anything further regarding an Inception console release.

That’s a great idea! I would LOVE to see a great game that allows you to manipulate dreams… Like a heavy rain game that changes as you choose how to create a dream… Of course 3D is a must (and greatly missed from the movie).
*THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE* I think the only way this game would be good is if they don’t base it off of the plot of the actual movie. The movie plot was amazing don’t get me wrong but following it for a game would suck. If they just used the idea that you can enter people’s dreams as the base concept and created a new group of characters with the ones from the movie as side characters it would be good. Or they could make a prequel to the movie but through video game. I think having it in a GTA style would be awesome. Free roam around and you can enter anyone’s dreams but in order to progress through the game there are certain people that you have to steal secrets from. One of those missions could be (if they went with the prequel idea) when Leo’s character and wife get stuck in that dream and grow old together. Then the last mission could end where the movie begins. Heck if it was PS3 exclusive they could put Inception on the disc and it could start playing once you get to the end of the main game.
SOOO many different possibilities to make this into a video game, I just hope it turns out good. Hopefully Nolan will have a huge hand in the development.
Wow, this is really awesome. After seeing the movie when it came out, I actually a thought later on that this could be made into a game.
This isn’t Uwe Bollshit, this is Christopher Nolan. So whoever plans to develop the game is going to have to do EXACTLY what he says.
Looking forward to some news.
Man, oh man… I’m already shaking with excitement over the mere possibility of this happening.
I think it’d be great to explore the architect aspect of the film, you know, building things from scratch and whatnot (maybe little big planet style) while of course, maintaining a great plot and action sequences.
