Rumors have been circulating the ‘net regarding Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet 2 and an impending delay. Today, the developer has announced the exclusive has indeed been pushed all the way into 2011.
Confirmed via the game’s official website, LittleBigPlanet 2 has been delayed into January 2011 from its original November release. The reason for the delay is the following:
“LittleBigPlanet 2 is a crazy dream, a dream to allow players to make whatever kind of game they want, but also to play though a great adventure of drama and excitement, power-ups, and cinematics. But like all of the most ambitious ideas, it can be a considerable challenge to turn these dreams in fun games. We’ve all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we’re almost there, but because we love what we’ve made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn’t let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable.
We know this will come as disappointing news for all you LittleBigPlanet fans, and believe us, we are disappointed too. We are a tight-knit team and we take enormous pride in our work, so to raise the bar we’ve set with the original LittleBigPlanet, a game that has been so embraced by all, we’ve agreed to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve. We are truly sorry, but hope you understand that we have to build the best possible game, as it is the foundation of our community.
On the upside, we are going to find a way to give more of you a taste of LBP2 prior to launch, so stay tuned.”
You can’t blame them, really. After the break-out success of the first title, fan’s expectations are extremely high.
Let’s all look on the bright-side: we’ll get a much more polished, feature-packed product come January, 2011.
*Sniff*
awwww…. thats killer man. I wonder what they’re going to give us instead, a demo or a beta thing? I guess its a good thing theres still a killer line up this fall to keep me entertained – but I was really looking forward to this, it would have been great around the holidays to play with my family.
This officially ruined my day
Oh well… it was just going to make me feel like a dork for not buying it right away when I’ll already have Dead Rising 2 and Castlevania to play.
…sigh. Have there been any games besides PS Move that Sony announced at E3 that have been released on time.
I hope Killzone 3 doesn’t get delayed
Damn….anyway, gives me more time for GT5
. It’s the reason I wasn’t buying LBP2 1st day or 2010 for that matter, GT5 will consume me and LBP just consumes so much time too it would be a disservice to the game to buy it just to have it sit there improperly attended. So no harm done (to me).
Im sad…I hope we get the beta soon…
@zerocool327
c’mon man, we know Socom 4 and now LBP slipped but we still got tons of games coming for the rest of the year. Castlevania October 5, Majiin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Enslaved, and some crappy shooters as always…oh yeah, and GT5. Isn’t anybody here buying GT5? you know that game is HUGE!
just another reason to support my belief that devs shouldn’t announce any release date until they are absolutely sure…there could be a ton of people who pre-ordered this as a Christmas gift now and if they don’t like giving presents late they are all going to be pissed. I’m not one of them but I’m still disappointed.
good, i am back up enough as it is
disappointed, but glad they are making sure it up to their standards rather than releasing a glitch and buggy game.
Maybe they will actually deliver a complete game this time. LBP is still incomplete even with all the updates they’ve put out. It does not contain at least 1/4 of the functionality advertised to be in the original release or in updates.
I love LBP, but it’s the same BS all over again. They should not be able to have a release date unless it’s set in stone, and there should be no pre-orders taken until it’s set in stone.
2011 l saw that coming
@themule
Not really looking forward to any of those games, but I may rent Enslaved. I agree with giese when he says developers shouldn’t announce release dates so early.
In the end it doesn’t really matter, it’s just disappointing.
wow another delay from 2010 to 2011 =( , at least 2011 is loaded even more. i’ll have to cancel my pre order and just wait till it comes out offically. i guess it means i can get dead rising 2 instead though. first socom to 2011 now this. whats next gt5
Sad but it frees up some funds for other games and makes the holidays a little easier
@solo013 – what? what are you talking about? what functionality is missing that they advertised for the original?
This makes me Sad and Happy at the same time. I loved and still play LBP 1 and want to get my hands on LBP 2 (I know everyone wants it). But know I get to buy a 500GB HD for my 40GB ps3…and plus some extra things for other games that have come out just the past days. Well now I cant wait for Jan 2011
Well at least Media Molecule aren’t going to rush a game just to compete for the winter sales unlike other people (Here’s looking at you Activision – PS: I get extra points for using this to take a dig at Activision)
It’ll be a shame but we’ll live and now we get to play Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood although I’ll constantly remind Ubisoft by email that I only got their game because LBP 2 wasn’t out.
This will ruin my holidays. Big time. A true post about how I feel would be so negative, the universe would implode. I’d rather not.
Omg, this is what, a 2 month push back?
lol
I can surely wait another 2 months.
Mm is a company that wouldn’t release a bugged piece of sh*t like some other companies we all know…
But still, LB2 could not come out until November of 2011, and I’d still be fine with that.
I’ll play the magical game then.
xD
