LittleBigPlanet 2 Delayed Due to Not All PS3s Being Connected

10/06/2010 Written by Zak Islam

Media Molecule’s head, Alex Evans, has revealed that reason behind LittleBigPlanet 2′s delay – mainly due to the fact that not all PlayStation 3s are connected to the Internet and capable of receiving a patch.

Alex Evans told VG247 during the recent Eurogamer Expo:

“Like LittleBigPlanet, we will be supporting the game with patches, updates and whatever, but you have to realise right from the beginning that there are those people who don’t have online and that is why we decided it was the right decision to delay the game. In the end, the main reason for it though was just that we played the game and in the end realised that we had to make the Blu-ray perfect, and I don’t mean 100 percent perfect, but I just mean something we are proud of. We respect people don’t have online and don’t want to patch their game to get the full experience. We could have shipped it and it would have been fine, however we realised that with just a couple of extra week’s we could make the game super amazing, adding the super onto the already amazing which exists today. This is something that will live forever and the delay, people will forget about.”

Evans went on to apologize to the countless of eager fans regarding the delay:

“I’m really sorry the delay frustrated people, even us, I mean I really wanted to get this game out for Christmas so hard. We pushed ourselves but realised with just a few more weeks we could make it perfect.”

LittleBigPlanet 2 was recently delayed into January 2011 from its original November release. Still, 2011 is looking like a real treat for PlayStation 3 owners as several exclusives will be releasing in the year including Twisted Metal, inFamous 2, Killzone 3 and more.

  1. Man i guess we have to chalk another one up to delays I really had high hopes for this one to be out so i could give myself a great birthday/christmas gift (being that I was born 3 days before christmas) oh well 2011 seems like its gonna be final call for lamebox 180 with all of our exclusives poppin up.

Death to release-day patches! Good on MM for sticking to principle.

Thumbs up for Media Molecule , or the credit to them, hats off, I take a bow. Really.

That company deserves respect. Missing the big holiday season to release the best product they can. You don’t see that often. Once again, I salute them.

can anyone tell me why this game is good? i played the 1st 1 but wasn’t really that fun i though. i sucked at the whole creating levels thing too, im going to assume its that.

For me personally, it is all about the create side. But if you’re into the platforming genre at all, this is going to be a blast (this is just based on the gameplay videos I’ve seen so far).

    • I suppose its just not for everyone. I thought it was great to have a very well put together platforming game that wasn’t freaking Mario – plus with all the create and sharing tools, having virtually infinite levels made it have a longer life of replayability than 95% of the games I own. Another friend of mine doesn’t like it, so I play online with his wife – in his words its because “it vomits sunshine”.

thats partially my issue with it. the created levels were good (dead space was my fav) but they were all fairly short. the story mode seemed like a giant tutorial to me. btw wasn’t the 1st 1 supposed to get water or am i thinking of this 1?

ugh can’t edit. mean’t “thought” not “though”.

I have to agree with the posts above regarding this decision. Good on MM to push it back. It’s a breath of fresh air to see that devs want to give us the greatest possible game right out of the box.

Yeah, I’m looking at you TT Games/Warner Bros. for Lego Harry Potter. Horrible glitches that feel like they are taking forever to get patched.

Hey I’m glad they delayed it. It’s great to see a games company that is really committed to doing the best they can, Media Molecule must be the first games company for the PS3/360 to not abuse the patch system.

Honestly sometimes I get a game and it needs a patch DAY ONE. Day one people! Though like I said I’m glad that choose to deley it if their not happy with what they’ve got at the moment, maybe if other games companies were as passionate as these guys we’d have more LittleBigPlanets and fewer games with endless patches.

I’m patient, after LBP 1 and LBP PSP I trust LittleBigPlanet 2 is going to be awesome.
