Killzone 3 is looking to be one of the biggest shooters on the PlayStation 3 in 2011. But half of the appeal of modern first-person shooter games is the competitive multiplayer aspect of the game. How do you test that? Why, Betas of course!
Just announced over at the official PlayStation Blog, the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial will be launching on October 25th. This will be the first PlayStation Plus exclusive beta since the service’s announcement. While it is open to ANYONE with PS Plus, there will be a limitation on how to get in. There are a several specific steps to follow if you want to get in, so read up carefully. Straight from the Blog:
- Be(come) a Plus subscriber
- On October 19th (October 13th for SCEE), an exclusive Killzone 3 XMB Theme will appear in the Plus section of the PlayStation Store. The first 10,000 Plus subscribers to download this theme (5,000 SCEA Plus subscribers and 5,000 SCEE Plus subscribers) will receive access to the Public Beta Trial.
- After you’ve downloaded the Killzone 3 XMB Theme, you will receive an email on Oct. 25th containing the Public Beta Trial promotion code and further instructions through the address you registered as your PSN Sign-In ID. Make sure you’ve set your notification preferences to accept emails from SCE, or we won’t be able to contact you.
PlayStation Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman and Killzone Community Leader Aryeh Loeb have also been quickly answering any questions that have been popping up on the Blog. Here is what is known so far.
- This beta will NOT contain Move or 3D support. It is strictly for the mechanics of the game, so now new features will be enabled.
- The exclusive Killzone 3 theme will not cost any more money outside of the initial PS Plus membership.
- The beta will last “as long as it takes,” so it could go for a few weeks or months. But not until after the game’s launch.
Are you excited about this announcement? What about the PS Plus exclusivity? There are plenty of people over on the Blog complaining about it being Plus only. I know there are a bunch of YOU who complain that there haven’t been ENOUGH Plus exclusive beta. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Having plus is starting to get to me. I appreeciate all the free stuff, but having the chance at access to beta is what drew me in, and and I am willing to bet alot of others also. There should not be the hoops to jump through, or limitations on the amount of people getting the beta.
if the betas werent limited, then there would be far too many people in them
see the halo beta , for halo 3 and halo reach , halo 3 you bought crackdown for access , if you bought halo odst you got into the halo reach beta, same with the splinter cell and getting into ghost recon future beta. saying there is a limit for a beta is a joke. because betas can hold large amount of people , pluss half the people that get into the beta hardly play , after the first few weeks.
I thought about the worry of having to many people in a beta at once, but is there really that many ps plus subscribers out there, and how many would all be playing at the same time.
you know how many people reported bugs in reach…. not close to the amount playing it as a demo and not a beta tester. and i didnt buy odst i got in via friends and family.
I guess the chances are based on how many people are actually Plus members. I’ve wanted to get PS+ for a while now, but I just haven’t made the jump. This MIGHT convince me.
I have plus, but I know I won’t be one of the first 5,000 to download the theme. They could always expand the numbers as we approach the launch date.
I assume this theme is free? lol
Either way, I wish it had Move support enabled but oh well.
Yeah that is all well and good but will they limit the IP addresses from EU players that have US accounts with Plus from grabbing slots from NA players???
Excellent question. I’d really like to know. Maybe the PSLS guys can get us the answer?
Meh, I’m not really interested. Killzone 2 was way over rated in my opinion – it had great graphics, but the gameplay itself was nothing ground breaking, and the weapons sucked. They’ll need a lot more improvements than adding Move support to get my purchase (and 3D doesn’t count for squat until I can afford a 3D tv)
They said they overhauled the controls and you can now carry more than 1 or 2 weapons… That plus exo and jetpack in multiplayer (with new roles and new career systems). It sounds like a pretty solid update to me…
And I’m picking up a Samsung 55″ 3DTV for less than $2k, which is not bad at all. 6 months from now, I’m sure that’ll go for closer to $1,500
All I know is, I’m going to constantly check the PS Store on the 19th and downloading that thing as fast as I can!
yea, i didnt like killzone 2 much at all…killzone 3 probably wont be in my library any time soon, or ever
this news is everywhere now. all these beta invites will be gone so fast :/
Plus subscription renewal time………………
knowing how they often do these types of things i will be screwed over and at work during the themes release. which will most likely be in the morning or early afternoon. now i realize i should have gotten the dang Vaio laptop and not saved a couple hundred bucks getting an HP.
Woop!
l hope the game controls are better than the last game
I have never understood this complaint. I haven’t played this game in awhile, but I don’t remember that controls because that crazy. I know people complain about the weighted feeling, but I did’t find that to be much of a problem.
I’m actually worried they dumbed this game down too much. I may pick up the 3 month PS+ to attempt to get in, but even with this beta PS+ isn’t that attractive.
I hope you guys are quick because i’m getting one of those codes lol.
Right. The Playstation store updates a (I know but don’t want to tell you) Pacific so it should update (one hour early) central. Perfect. Beta’s all mine. What’s weird. I tend to want to get in betas even though I have no intent to buy the game.
Umm it’s not like it’s at the exact same time every night, and it’s not exactly a secret either lol.
OH PLEASE LET ME IN!!
Nice touch wit the hot news section. and i love it being exclusively to PS+ owners, we deserve a beta like this. and the 19th, i will be checking in the store every 5mins. no game time
