Mega Man Creator Hates His Job
“Find out what you love to do and then figure out how to make money at it” is a well-known phrase for business success. One would think that designing games you love and making people the world over happy with your creations would give you a job you couldn’t wait to return to everyday—according to Keiji Inafune if you think that you’re wrong.
Keiji Inafune, Head of Research & Development and Online Business and Global Head of Production for Capcom is probably better known for being the character designer for a gaming icon: Mega Man. Despite all that success, when Inafune-san was asked if he loved his job and he had this to say:
“It’s the opposite. I hate it! I want to retire early and take it easy.”
Inafune-san explained further by stating that’s why he’s working so hard these days. He says if someone’s work is respected, things are much easier for them. They can take it slow, do a small bit on AAA title like Dead Rising and then get make a large salary. That isn’t Inafune’s view on the way it should be. He stated “There are loads of creators like that” and he added:
“But I’m not like that. If things are difficult while they are doing it, they can become a leader and a creator.”
Inafune takes his work seriously; it’s clear he wants to be the best. He also — if the translation is to be understood — absorbs what he sees and experiences around him to become better at what his craft. In the interview, he made reference to Peter Petrelli’s empathetic mimicry saying “I’ve got that ability.” From the diversity and success of his work it certainly sounds like he does.

Hes a freaking whiny pu**y. I’m sick if hearing him complain. Its all hes done this generation.
Please, do Capcom and its fans a favor and QUIT!
Or better yet, Capcom should fire this tool.
Just wanted to add, i’m not sure i agree hes dedicated and wants to see the best possible work. All of Capcom’s games have sucked this gen except Super Street Fighter IV.
Resident Evil 5 is a great game and DMC4 is quite good. That’s all your opinion. Granted, they have released a load of crap too. But we also got Megaman 9 and 10 retro games, and Bionic Commando Rearmed, so be mindful of your words.
I never cared for DMC. Not saying its a bad game but the franchise never appealed to me. Yes it is my opinion that RE5 was garbage. It was such a let down. Its not even a Resident Evil. It didn’t know what it was. Gears of War or Resident Evil. And i forgot about MegaMan 9 and 10. Those are good for 3 good games in 5 years says it all.
Besides, how is Dead Rising 2 working out? pftahahaha!
Just make a new Mega Man X game for PS3 and then you can retire…
I agree. I hope his whole Petrelli reference is that he’s just in an environment that’s wearing on him. When he does step away, I say he gives a Mega Man game the likes of which no man has seen nor will see again.
^ This. Mega Man X on the SNES is by far my favorite of the Mega Man games. Id love them to just come out on PSN or something.
