Gran Turismo 5 Delay Was Last-minute Decision, SCEA Not Happy

10/14/2010 Written by Zak Islam

When Gran Turismo 5 was delayed yesterday, gamers were clearly furious with the decision. Apparently, the decision to delay the racer was made just one day before the announcement.

Sony Computer Entertainment of America’s Taku Imasaki, the producer on the PlayStation 3 exclusive, told New York Times:

“We’re really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday [Oct. 12]. Realistically, we thought we had a good date.”

Imasaki continued:

“We’re not happy over here.”

We’re not happy too.

Imasaki also stated that Sony “is shooting for it to be out by the holidays and “you won’t see too much more delay.” The exact, final release date for Gran Turismo 5 will be announced at the end of the month.

We certainly aren’t happy. But I haven’t got my 3DTV yet, so I’m trying to play this off as acceptable :-P

Yeah Holiday 2013 if the Earth survives Dec 2012…

  3. So in other words they are afraid of COD and Kinects release dates because pre orders for the game have been bad. So now my money goes to COD instead of GT5 this christmas. Well done Sony

  4. “you won’t see too much more delay.” – heh, so… there’s still more to come?

Guys, it was just to add an anti jailbreak code, thats all. Its still coming out this holiday.

This is all bullshit especially in this era of console games being almost all connected to the Internet where automatic game’s update and DLCs do exist. They should had already pushed out this game since Prologue and doing something like Criterion did with Burnout Paradise, aka, free awesome updates (day/night cycle, motorcycle, etc.) and some specific DLCs. I can imagine a Karting and Nascar addons for GT5. Let us play and will be able to polish the game at demand. The only downside I see is bandwith and time consumption, other than that… you can even throw a GoTY edition full packed one day ;)

  7. FFXIV taught me that pushing a product out the door is a BAD idea.

  8. I was dying to get this game, but I waited three years. What’s an extra three weeks?

Does anyone know why the game was delay?
