Konami has announced that one million copies of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow have been shipped to retailers across the United States and Europe since the game’s release this October. The publisher, however, did not go into any details regarding how many copies of the game have been actually been sold. But for the title to have shipped as many as one million copies, sales of the reboot must be fairly impressive.
The company’s President Shinji Hirano commented on the news:
“The remarkable sales achieved in such a short time are a true testament of the work and dedication that went into this project, and we’re very grateful to have partnered with such fine talent in the rebirth of one of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.’s most successful franchises.”
A Castlevania: Lords of Shadow sequel is seemingly being planned by developer MercurySteam after the game’s composer said that the second Lords of Shadow title will be “even more spectacular” than its predecessor.
The game starts slow, then after the second chapter it gets better, it grows on you…then it gets very derivative, too many puzzles not enough awesome battles to put your repertoire of skills to test (and I was playing on Hard), and the last 2 Lords of Shadow are incredibly dumb fights, including the last boss which is just underwhelming, lame and easy. There was a point when I was saying this game is reaching a ” 9/10″ , then it settled for almost an 8…it lacked the awesomeness games of this genre require, gameplay-wise, combat-wise, ’cause all the scenery was superb, but the story was bland, and the characters, so there’s really not much incentive to go back to it for a second run, maybe only if you are a trophy whore, but that’s it.
I kind of agree. It for sure starts slow, but picks up quite well in my opinion. I thought the story got really awesome towards the end. The Draco Lich was weak and so was the the final boss. I thought the mechanics for the final boss were awesome, but the fight itself is sub-par. The ending was pretty weak, but once again the post credit ending made up for it completely and leaves my ecstatic for the sequel.
I want this game but it for sure can wait till the price drops.
it is a fine game, but the controls are average, that is what i did not likedabout it
Castlevania is without a doubt one of my all time favorite franchises, and as a devoted fan since day 1 (Simon will always be the first and best Belmont in my book) I can honestly say this is the BEST 3D Castlevania ever made, closely followed by Lament of Innocence. How quickly people forget the steaming piles that were Castlevania 64 and Curse of Darkness… Major kudos to Mercury Steam and Konami for having the balls to sacrifice continuity on behalf of updating a stagnating franchise. Bring on the next great ‘vania, I say!
I was actually playing through this again last night on Paladin (X-Hard, I guess?), and was really enjoying the fact that I could do so as a bonus run from playing knight, so I had all my abilities and magic right away. Its rare a game lets you do that anymore, but for me it made it a lot of fun. Anyway, I pretty much love everything about this game except some of the platforming mechanics. I constantly wish that it had more of a free roaming feel to it, and an unlocked camera. Not that I mind the linearity entirely, I just wish there was slightly more exploration allowed and that all the jumping/climbing moves worked all the time, instead of being context sensitive. Regardless, this is a great game, flat out.
