Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Officially Teased, Premieres at the VGAs

12/09/2010 Written by Corey Schwanz

It’s official. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is real and will be shown at Spike’s Video Game Awards this Saturday.

Announced by Geoff Keighley on his Twitter account, Entertainment Weekly has the story. Taking place in the desert, Nathan Drake will follow the footsteps of Sir Francis Drake and T.E. Lawrence. The same man of “Lawrence of Arabia” fame, Drake’s Deception will follow the history of the man during his British exploring days. It will feature incredible animation of organic elements, such as water, sand, and fire. It came out of an inspiration for Naughty Dog to push themselves as hard as possible. Why? Naughty Dog’s co-president Evan Wells said “[Because] We’re a bunch of nerds.”

The game will feature new innovation elements to the series, rather than a new skin on Among Thieves. Several new things, including enhanced backward climbing and the ability to fight multiple baddies at once, will be introduced to the series. Online elements will definitely play a major role in the new game, so cooperative and competitive multiplayer will be a major focus for the game. Wells said, “We want to be in the big boys, with Halo and Call of Duty.”

Along with a few concept art pictures, Naughty Dog released a quick teaser video ahead of their VGA reveal:

Drake’s Deception will be hitting store some time in late 2011, so it looks like it’ll be around the two year anniversary of Uncharted 2.  So, how excited ARE you?

  5. Krelian says:

  6. editomz says:

Awesome, but be prepared cause this game will be shooted in the foot with the media like GT5.

  7. How many people shit their pants already? :)
i just hope there is an urban environment as well as some green environment at some point in the game aside from the whole desert concept and God oh God please Naughty Dog change the title,we know that is somehow essential to the plot, but it’s so cheesy.World of Deceit did sound better.
On a different note i would love to see another ip from Naughty Dog.Why constrain themselves only with Uncharted?i know they have huge ambitions about the franchise, but i would love to see something different from them too,ps3 exclusive off course :P

HOLY F**K! Hats off to sony, how may amazing exclusives is this for 2011 now?

This has got to be a record for a game company this generation on providing exclusives for a given year, sony just killed microsoft haha!

the only thing I’m concerned about is that the growing focus on multiplayer will cause them to shorten the single player campaign. I really, REALLY, do not want Uncharted to become a franchise that focuses most of its energy on multiplayer. Being that it’s Naughty Dog and Sony I’m not nearly as worried as I would be if it was someone and Activision, but I am still concerned. I really do hate the new trend in games with 5 or 6 hour campaigns and massive multiplayer modes.

I think they’ll take care of us, i’m confident the campaign will be just as long if not longer then 2′s considering this seems to have the same time frame of development that 2 had and they probably already had 3 cooking in the oven before 2 shipped…The only thing i’m skeptical about is them keeping a 2011 release date but naughty dog stayed true to uncharted 2′s release sooo idk.

My god i’m so excited, I gotta go gets some tissues!

    • wtGp says:

seriously your one of those people that is still worried about multiplayer ruining the game where Among Theives proved all you naysayers wrong. l’m glad they’re focusing more on the multiplayer becase it kicks ass in 2

    • I completely agree with you. I have the same worries.

  15. Either Sony will definitely push some of all these exclusives back a little bit or they know that we’re actually near the end of days (2012) lol :P
