The first map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops was officially announced recently, and here are the limited details. Titled First Strike it will include 4 new competitive multiplayer maps and one new zombie mode map. The pack will be releasing in February, unfortunately Xbox will get it first February 1st, while PS3 and PC will wait get it at a later, undetermined date. The pack will cost 1200 MS points, which translates into $15. Since the MW2 map packs were so successful at this high price point, it seems that Activision will continue with the established trend.
While no real details were offered about the new zombie map other than the name “Ascension”, brief descriptions for each of the four competitive maps were given by Dan Bunting in an interview with Major Nelson. “Discovery” is set in an abandoned German research station in the Antarctic. “Kowloon” will be set in Kowloon, China, taking place across rooftops of the city and is inspired by an area of the single player campaign. “Berlin Wall” is located at the historical location Checkpoint Charlie, and sets the scene for a battle between East and West Berlin. Finally, “Stadium” will take place in a hockey rink somewhere in North America.
It looks like there will be some good variety of settings here to do battle in, and Treyarch is making effort to bring fans more of what they want. Dan Bunting elaborated a bit, saying they wanted to bring “a variety of weaponry, a variety of engagement types, variety of verticality, bringing some sniper opportunities into it” as well as “scripted moments and interactivity in every single one of the new maps”. We’ll keep you posted when more information is available. In the mean time, are you excited for an opportunity to extend your COD: Black Ops experience?
Another slap in the face to PS3 gamers when will you learn that Activision does not like the PS3 when they have Microshafts wallet for timed exclusivity to feed on. It is only when they are loosing money on a game that they then release it on PS3…
Grow up and grow a grenade hand, send Activsion a clear signal that this is unacceptable, stop buying into the crapware they shove out to PS3 gamers. Let us see if they can live on Micro(shaft) transactions alone. Remember that this DLC may take up to a year to get to the PS3 and then it will be so crappy since it might be a port from 360ville.
LOL Micro(shaft), thats classic!
Umm that really isn’t how timed exclusivity works… They decide on a length of time beforehand, so saying they release it whenever they start to lose money is ridiculous. Does not like the ps3? No sorry, they like the money they get from the ps3 just fine, sony just isn’t willing to compete with microsoft for exclusivity on thie franchise. Cool. They don’t need to. The maps will be coming probably about a month or 2 after anyway, not this up to a year after you pulled out of your ass.
Can I ask you how you feel about all the PS3 exclusive content in games this year and in the future? Not timed exclusivity, xbox is never getting this content. If you call timed exclusivity a slap in the face then outright exlucisivity is a kick in the nuts.
why does Microsoft get DLC sooner and fewer connection problems?
Fewer connection problems is because the 360 OS is based on Windows 2000 server. They probably use a Tunneled VPN connection to make sure they get a secure hold on the connection. Also they might have “secret” API in the server software that they don’t tell Sony about if Sony is using the same Windows Server software for their gaming experience.
The PS3 is most likely using a proprietary client based on Linux and there are a lot of gaming servers that use Windows based servers and we know how Billy Gates feels about “Freeware”…
They did this with Personal Computers in 1995 and they are doing it now with their “Gaming Computer systems”. The gaming community was warned about this when Microsoft created the first X-box based on the Intel Xenon processor, that machine was locked down and limited in how it could be used. Now hackers are using those boxes as Multimedia centers…
no Microsoft bought them out for an exclusive dlc early launch
We need to become more educated as a country, stop impulsively buying every new FPS that comes out and push the devs to their limits.
The industry needs innovation, not more of the same.
Activision and Microsoft are drowning us in bullshit and we can’t just sit by and watch it happen. Don’t just play/buy a game because your friends play it. Play & Buy games that are worth YOUR money and help promote the image of good ethics for the gaming industry..because our country’s gaming market is absolute garbage.
EVEN THOUGH I OWN THIS GAME, I WILL NOT BE BUYING THIS MAP PACK.
I bought this game used just so I didn’t have to give any money to activision. The only thing I really want is the zombie map so $15 is just stupid.
That’s how I felt with WaW, since when I played competitively I preferred CoD4. I always hated that they didn’t have a separate pack for all the zombie maps.
I have a few comments:
–SPD55 is really smart and all that crap makes sense to me.
–I don’t know why the PS3 got shafted for Black Ops. Its not like it sells much less then the xbox. First it was the connection problems and now its late DLC. I’m happy I’m a Socom fan so when S4 comes out in March I don’t have to deal with all this bullshit!
Pretty sure I read somewhere that XBOX has the exclusive rights to all COD map packs for the next few years-meaning they will get all map packs at least a month earlier than the PS3.
