Naughty Dog Discusses Charting Move Support

12/21/2010 Written by Joseph Peterson

With Sony’s motion controller, the PlayStation Move, having recently released, many wondered whether there would be Move support for Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated title, Uncharted 3. In a recent interview, the developers of the title sat down and discussed the game, and one of the topics of interest was the possible inclusion of motion support.

Both co-president Christophe Balestra and game director Justin Richmond were interviewed in the upcoming issue of Edge. With regards to whether or not Uncharted 3 would have Move or Sixaxis support, Balestra had this to say:

They’re not telling us we have to use Sixaxis or Move. They’ll say it’d be nice, of course, but they’re not going to go against our judgement if we say it’s not the right thing to do.

Richmond continued:

They’re always going to ask us to put all their crazy stuff in there and see if it works, but they accept it when it doesn’t.

Would you want Move support in Uncharted 3?

  1. I wouldn’t want move. I guess it would be okay if it was just an option but I doubt many people would use it. A game like Uncharted is a game I just want to sit down with a controller and play.

I think naughty dog can do clever stuff with the move, I know many people didn’t like the sixaxis controls on drake’s fortune, but I though they were kinda cool…

    Move support is very questionable

once killzone comes out and the move rocks it im sure alot more people will want move support…..i play mag with it and i dont even zoom in ,it took awhile to get my settings rite 4 me but once i did it its great……socom 4 i hope works out well also i will get the killzone sharp shooter which was designed with killzone and socom teams…..the move is great just need great dev to use it

I think SOCOM will be a better show than Killzone. 3rd Person Shooters should work better with Move than FPS anyways, and SOCOM and Uncharted have that in common. Also InFamous. I already have my entire Move set-up. Now I’m just waiting for these awesome games to come out!

3rd person better than FPS? also, are you aware Uncharted is nothing like Socom? in Uncharted you have to be agile, climb stuff, jump, roll, roll into cover, fist-fight, hang from ledges, shimmy up, rappel, etc. etc. I’m not saying it’s impossible, I think it’s certainly doable for Move more than any other motion-controller scheme available, but it’s very complicated. Maybe they could design a whole Move-Mode where certain actions are simplified or semi-automatic, something like that, make it casual-friendly.

if anyone can figure out a great way to utilize Move it would be Naughty Dog, but I just don’t think Move was made for 3rd person shooters. I want to use Move in situations where it provides a better sense of realism, so first person games it’s perfect, but for a 3rd person game it doesn’t add any realism. When you can see your character walking around on screen there really isn’t a way to make you feel like it is actually you doing the actions on screen.

    No, No….and guess what? NO!

  6. wtGp says:

    yes it would be interesting

“Would you want Move support in Uncharted 3?”

    A resounding NO.

Sony should find out if the patents for the Nintendo “Power Gloves” are up for grabs? Then you could use the Eye Camera or a newer version that could use special hand controllers similar to mo-cap gloves and turn that into gameplay. IE hanging would require specific hand gesture just like you would in the real world…or it could go to FP view and you would see hands and you would move those hands to complete the move along the wall etc… But that would require more memory than the PS3 could handle at this time in its lifecycle… Maybe PS4 they will fix the one hardware issue that they admitted to keeping that is hindering the Cell Broadband Processor that is in the console.

  9. why woudln’t you want support for move?

of course they are going to have dual shock/ 6 axis/nomrla control support , unlike wii they don’t force motion control only games at you. killzone 3 , socom 4 will have both standard and motion control support.

so why on earth are people saying no support to something sony made? its not like they are saying lets make this a move only game , they only are thinking about adding support for it. of course you wouldn’t care if you don’t own move , but if you owned move then you would want this. morons.
