NASCAR 2011 Makes a Pit Stop

01/14/2011 Written by Cameron Teague

The 2011 season of NASCAR is getting ready at the starting blocks but sadly its video game counterpart will need a little extra time in the pit. Originally scheduled for a February release date, NASCAR: The Game 2011 is now eying a March 29th start time.

First time publisher Activision gave no reason for the delay, but it does seem odd considering that will be six races into the season and miss one of the biggest races in the Daytona 500. As with any delay, you can only hope that this added time gives developer Eutechnyx time to tweak and/or fix any possible issues in the game.

I haven’t played GT5 yet, but isn’t there supposed to be a Nascar mode in there? I don’t see the need for a Nascar game, especially since its mostly “turn left and accelerate”.

    • There is, it’s a part of the special events in the game. You get lessons from Jeff Gordon about NASCAR and the special techniques they need to use to win, primarily focusing on drafting due to the course layouts. It’s kind of cool, I learned a lot about NASCAR and why it’s a difficult type of racing. You can also purchase and win NASCAR vehicles for use throughout other portions of the game.

I hadn’t realized that EA dropped/lost the franchise
