It was only yesterday that we reported that the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 had shot to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list alongside LittleBigPlanet 2. The list must have been a crystal clear indication, because it appears that Mass Effect 2 is quickly becoming a rare find.
Within 24-hours of its release, Amazon has run out of supply of the PS3 version of BioWare’s sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 2. Also, the Best Buy that I visited today had no copies in-stock, and the online “check store” feature indicates that three out of five of my local stores are awaiting a second shipment to arrive.
Should we cough this up to some unusually high consumer demand, or limited quantities stocked? Whatever the case, this game is attracting some positive attention, and its welcomed presence is already being felt by Sony and consumer alike.
both , i used to go to gamestop which used to be ebgames , if you didn’t pre order a game it would be ussally hard to get somtimes. they would order so many non preorders , say they would get like 50 pre orders and only have like 10 copies to sell for ppl who didn’t pre order. the best buy around where i live hardly runs out of copies of any game. and ussally have pretty large setups for the big games.
it’s out of stock on many of my nearest retailers too,i can’t get my hands on the copy…seriously
As i asked them though it seems to be a little of both high demand plus limited copies stocked
they got plenty of copies on the playstation store
That was genuinely funny
well done sir…very well done.
shit. I didn’t think many people would preorder this considering LBP 2 is coming out next week.
I was at Gamestop yesterday as well (apparently I had accrued some credit, I have no idea how) and didn’t see any copies of ME2 either… Either because of limited stock or because everyone picked up a copy, the fact is that the game performed higher than EA expected (or else they would’ve shipped more copies). The words “sell out” have never looked so good.
I didn’t see any copies at Best Buy either, but I wasn’t really looking… but on the plus side I finally tried out the Move and the accuracy is impressive. After few more core games with Move support come out I’m definitely getting it.
Best Buy is due to them having a Buy 2 get 1 free for games $29.99 or higher. You could buy LBP2, ME2, and get another game free. The game is great and popular, but BB being out is due to a great price on a new release.
As much as this doesn’t surprise me, it does. We’ve been waiting a while for this and it deserves all of the hype/acclaim its gotten. Still a mighty impressive feat to sell out at Amazon, Best Buy, and Gamestop. Well done EA and Bioware.
It’s not sold out, as a matter of fact Amazon has just listed it as part of the buy 2 get third copy free deal check it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&ref_=amb_link_355115842_1&docId=1000652381
Thats really embarassing. Its sad that most people probably skipped LBP2 for this year old piece of crap, this generation is really depressing.
You’re right. This generation really is depressing. Not for any reason you said though.
The game is not a piece of crap but I agree LBP2 is the better buy.
You can’t really generalise people like that. LBP2 still has a large amount of preorders and a large amount of people will still buy the game as it’s a PS3 exclusive.
I’m embarrassed that I had to read the crap that spewed from your keyboard.
What crap from who? Sorry just with the amount of replies to the original quote it’s hard to tell
or people just bought both?
I’d rather wait like 3 months to pick up LBP2…for 2 reasons.
1. more user generated levels.
2. cheaper.
oh and I haven’t played ME2 yet so I got that first.
But I do agree that this generation is failing..but it’s not for failing to pick one game over another. It’s for teenagers getting pregnant and watching garbo TV like teen mom and jersey shore.
There’s a thing called preferences.Heard it?
LBP2 is without a doubt a great game but to many people like me isn’t their cup of tea.
LBP is heavily based on it’s multiplayer and the level creation.I’m not much into level creation since it requires a LOT of patience and time and i’m maxed out
LBP is more of a party game,i prefer single player story based experiences.
Still i think it’s a great and fun game but i won’t buy it on release since there are other games that pick my interest more.
.
I downloaded the PS+ trial. The final game is waaaaaaaay better than the that demo they released weeks earlier. They shouldn’t have released that demo. I bet it turned some people off.
Picked up the last copy at BB when I did the buy 2 get 1 free
Peace,
VG
The biggest reason is the fact that ME was a 360 only and ME2 was released a year ago for PC/360. Retailers figured that they may have been burned before with a release schedule like this on another title so to keep from ordering too many they ordered what they had for pre-orders and a smaller precentage than if they would have had a normal multi-platform release. Now they are out of stock and it is just a fact of life that the economy and gamers can be fickle.
Well it’s not like any of us HAD to go buy a 360 to have the game. We had more than enough exclusives to keep the time.
err… uh… I bought a 360 for Mass Effect… Please don’t hurt me!
One. Nod. Of dissatisfaction.
I bought a 360 for 100 bucks just to play the ME series… I still keep my profile and saves in a memory stick, but I ended up selling it back to the guy cuz I wasn’t too impressed. And as soon as I get the PS3 version I’m deleting those saves and forgetting I ever owned it
If you buy it used it’s fine because then the unit sales don’t get affected because not a dime of money from used products goes to the manufacturer. I’ve even contemplated doing this.
yes, i got to say for a person like me that hasnt played this game, i am on the hunt to get it. i hope one pops up soon maybe at my local gamestop or best buy. but its good to know that the playstation is going to be getting some great games this year. i just worry that i dont have enough time to beat each one before the next good game releases.
Surprised it sold out
Good games just surpised that it’s doing even this good. Hopefully Bioware won’t be so gay in future when making games from the get go, as well as fixing those whacky pixelated shades. They really really throw off the game, seriously.
