One of the biggest features Media Molecule raved about when the original LittleBigPlanet was announced, was not only the ability to create levels, but also the ability to go online, and play all the user-created levels with friends. When LittleBigPlanet finally hit the market though, the online was plagued by horrible lag, and connection issues. Eventually these were all fixed, so when LittleBigPlanet 2 was announced, most gamers felt like Media Molecule had learned their lesson, and wouldn’t make the same mistakes. Unfortunately, it looks like that is only slightly true.
Since LittleBigPlanet 2 was released earlier this week, gamers have run into an online issue yet again. When trying to play with friends, you are met with an infinite load screen. It seems that when you try to join up with friends, or random people online, it is nearly impossible to play any levels. You are either met by an extremely long loading screen while trying to enter their pod, or when you go into the level. Either way, most of the time you are left there for well over 10 minute.
Thankfully, Media Molecule finally addressed this issue on their Twitter page today:
Found an issue causing some of the freezes being reported and should be able to alleviate the pain a bit!
So it looks like we will be seeing a patch sometime in the next few days. In the meantime, Joystiq is reporting on a temporary workaround. When you are faced with the infinite loading screen, simply turning off your controller is supposed to allow the level to load quicker. When we turned off the controller during the loading screen, we were taken to the level within 10 seconds. We only tried this a few times, so this could be a coincidence. If anyone else has tried this out, please let us know in the comments.
Hopefully we will see a patch at the beginning of the week, but until than this workaround will have to do.
Fine on my end.
Yea, just started playing lbp2 tonight and ran into it right off the bat trying to join my friend and have had it happen multiple times after that; turning off the controller works but sometimes it can still be quite a long wait until it finally loads up.
I think the servers are getting overloaded. I for the game the friday before release (subway contest) and everything was fine. Once everyone got it things started messing up. Also some 700,000 have already been published. I think they will fix it soon. They should already know how.
well as of right now I’m focusing on getting through the story levels by myself so I fully expect when I am ready to go online this issue will be one of the past
I had a couple freeze ups both Tuesday night and then again this morning, nothing crazy but froze a couple of times while loading up. Over all it’s been pretty fine though, nice to see it wasn’t just me.
Looking forward to publishing some levels myself with the new goods after I kill the story mode.
I got the game since tuesday and this happened like 4 or 5 times the first 2 days so i changed the settings to online but alone.. I waited more than 10 minutes and nothing.. And there is plenty of lag when playing with random people.. why didnt MM solve this after LBP 1? That was the most annoying issue then and is still here.
I love LBP 2 and im almost done with 100% xcept for the parts where I NEED PEOPLE to get the x2 or x4 prizes.. and i srsly dont want to use 4 controllers at once, did that for LBP1 and just took too long.. Im just amazed by all the new tools and stuff but if i could connect with people faster and less lag, the online gameplay will be more than it is right now
Yup I haven’t been able to play any community levels all day, or connect online with other people to play story levels. I was able to connect to my friends pod last night, but we didn’t try any levels. The controller work around isn’t working for me.
