The day of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play event, as teased on the day of the Super Bowl XLV, is finally here and some exciting details regarding the release of the device have been revealed.
As it turns out, the rumors were true. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be launching in the United States exclusively through Verizon Wireless in early spring of 2011 after the device begins shipping in March. Not a Verizon Wireless customer? The gaming smartphone is also set to launch on other wireless carriers and will be announced accordingly by the respective wireless carriers. By the looks of it, so far only a CDMA device will be releasing because of the Verizon Wireless exclusivity. However, GSM devices are bound to release as soon as the Xperia Play is release in the other territories given that the overseas carriers are primarily GSM-based networks.

With the fact that Unlimited is now LIMITED it makes buying these types of phones more difficult. At least for those that don’t have the funds to pay for the new plans when they have overage problems by over playing games on 3g Networks…
I think Verizon is shooting themselves in the foot now. I would say the iPhone (on Verizon) and this are probably going to be the top owned phones ever and I don’t think they can handle all the people who are going to switch over. I could be wrong but I give it a year max before the complaints start coming in strong.
I thought it was gonna be on AT&T since they already have a Xperia.
Any news on Canadian carriers? Is it going to be Rogers, since thats what the rumor said.
