Medal of Honor Sequel Announced

02/18/2011 Written by Matt Baker

Electronic Art and Danger Close’s Medal of Honor has been a phenomenal success; the reboot has sold over five million copies so far. Due to the great success of the shooter, Greg Goodrich, the Executive Producer of Medal of Honor, has confirmed that a sequel is underway.

Confirmed via a blog post, Goodrich stated:

Yes, Danger Close is currently working on the next Medal of Honor.Just recently, EA announced that the reboot of Medal of Honor was a big success with over 5 million copies sold. We wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for supporting us, our new studio and our storied franchise. We would especially like to thank all of the long time Medal of Honor fans out there who have stuck with us over the years. Since our launch last October, we’ve studied, listened and absorbed much of your feedback and are very excited to be marching forward on the next title. We can’t wait to tell you more about it, so check back often to the website and the fan page on Facebook.

As you all know, our goal was to tell the story of today’s soldier and to do so with the utmost respect and reverence. We’ve received many letters, emails and messages from active servicemen and women from around the world, along with veterans and their families, with appreciation for our recent depiction of their community. I can’t tell you how important this is to everyone here at Danger Close Games. You are the heartbeat of this team and this franchise and we are privileged and honored to tell your story. Medal of Honor has always been fueled by the passion of our fans and the commitment and sacrifice shown by the men and women of our armed services.

It’s going to be a fun ride for the Medal of Honor franchise. We are happy to have you aboard.

Many had been skeptical if Medal of Honor would perform in the commercial front; the decision to get rid of the taliban as the opposition force within multiplayer – after many had piled pressure on EA due to the addition – had angered many fans and gamers alike. However, as seen via the statement above and impressive launch sales, Medal of Honor has indeed succeeded in regards to sales and a sequel announcement would have only been a matter of time.

  1. I thought the story for the first one was very touching but did not have great length. The multiplayer was ok. I liked it better than any COD game; thats fo sho!!

Please stop with this EA, MoH is dead and you know it. Concentrate on Battlefield 3 and please don’t add another crappy moh game into the fray as the market is overflowing with fps’s…perhaps if the franchise took a different route it’d be more appealing(future combat?) but as it is now their sights are on mimicking and out doing CoD…

    • what does this have to do with battleifled ? ea doesn’t develop battlefield DICE does , ea just publishes battlfield. neither development teams have anything to do with either game?

      • heckteck says:

technically DICE did make MOH’s multiplayer…….but anyways i think danger close should build the multiplayer this time around instead of getting help from DICE because having single player have one control then multiplayer have a different messed with me a little bit even though changes were at best minimum

While I don’t agree on your views of the latest Medal of Honor, I do like what you’re saying in regards to “future warfare”. If I were EA, I’d try to get on to that genre before Activision does with their CoD titles.

  3. ZombieHell says:

Yes! This is great news. I really enjoyed playing Medal Of Honor and I’m really glad they’re making a sequel. I just earned the Platinum Trophy Yesterday from Medal Of Honor. Can’t wait to here more news

Oh, right on. I see what EA is probably doing here… instead of being like Activision where they release a Call of Duty every single year, EA will give their teams time and have their war titles released every second year. This year we’ll have Battlefield 3. Next year will be Medal of Honor 2 (or whatever it’s called). 2013 will be a fourth Battlefield or third Bad Company and so on. It’s actually a pretty smart plan if that’s what they’re doing.

Personally, I enjoyed the new Medal of Honor. Sure, it wasn’t without problems but it was sure a lot better than a lot of the crap out there today. The single player campaign was fun and intense and the multiplayer had me hooked for quite some time… which NEVER happens! I’m a definite SP gamer and I usually despise MP. Not only were both modes fun but EA also gave all us PS3 owners a HD copy of Frontline (which I consider to be the ONLY good PS2 MoH game).

I will definitely support a second Medal of Honor. Count me in, EA/Danger Close!

    • tridon, that’s exactly what CoD does. Infinity Ward came out with CoD4 in 2007 while Treyarch worked World at War for a 2008 release. Then MW2 in 2009 and Black Ops in 2010. Most video games have two year development cycles. I see what you’re saying though. Games need more development time, at least 3 years in my opinion. Resistance 3 was a two year thing, but Insomniac asked Sony for an extra year and were given it. It’s already playable from start to finish and they still have months before the release. That’s how games need to be made.

MoH is awesome. MoH Frontline is also awesome. CoD sucks (4 was good).

This is why West and Zempel from IW/Activision near the end of their contract with Activsion were wanting to move on to other IP and Kotick did not. Kotick even was holding back royalty payments for creating the best selling MW before MW2 was release so that they would work on MW2, they did. And then near the end of the development the two senior programmers/developers knew that Kotick was going to do the same thing again they decided to shop themselves to other competitors and when Kotick found out he fired them. Now you have the legal battle with Activision.

I loved MoH in Campaign mode but it was too short, I hope that the next release is longer. I grew up solely on Campaign/Single Player game mode so not having a SP only game is getting harder to find and with the way kids play online I don’t like the foul mouths in my living room for grand kids to hear. So paying nearly $70 for a game is getting harder to do.

    • isn’t that what call of duty does? while its the same name treyarch and ifninty ward switched back and forth?

      • tridon says:

True, true… different developers, yes, but it’s still the same franchise. By switching franchises back and forth, each one will stay fresh. It’s only a matter of time before Activision starts releasing two Call of Duty games a year and run it into the ground like they did with Guitar Hero.

      • i doubt they would do 2 a year that makes no sense , if anything they added a 3rd cod studio so 1 is going to be by slugehammer , which is rummored to be a future war type call of duty , there are rummors that treyarch is thinking about expanding on the blackops story and make a sequal to black ops. so in the next 3 years you can see black ops 2 , modern warefare 3 , and future warfare (whatever they end up caling it). also they are working on a halo waypoint type program for call of duty that isnt a game , but a waypoint program for call of duty. which lets you get the latlest news , ect , and see your stats from other call of duty games in one spot.

  6. They did a really great job in the single player of depicting what our soldiers in Afghanistan have gone through. Every friend I have who has come back from that and played the game has described how scenes in the game were almost exactly like the fire fights they had gone through. Some people cried foul over war profiting, but they don’t cry foul at gun manufacturers for the same thing. I’m always in support of bringing to light the experiences our soldiers go through to protect our freedoms, rather than keeping it hidden away as if its never happened. That’s more disrespectful than anything.

Keep ‘em coming Danger Close, keep showing us what it’s really like to fight for your rights, and remember that they’re protecting your right to use the first amendment, so do it!

  7. heckteck says:

COD black ops bored the hell out of me but MOH kept me interested even though i was going through a FPS burnout……if only Danger Close can extend the single player aspect of the game next time around then i will be satisfied

  8. beatkilla says:

moh is great but i hope they do a couple of dlc nefore the new one….just played it today need some new maps and maybe some new weapons or skins

  9. soldiercell says:

Please keep dice out of the Multiplayer this time, Dice Sucks Dick

  10. Meghterb says:

The campaign mode was good but they ripped off a lot of scenes “or ideas, generally speaking” from Modern Warfare 2. The multiplayer was good but the lack of maps made me lose interest of the game.

I hope they fix these issues in their upcoming sequel.

Can’t wait. I’m picking it up!
