Sony Plans Apocalptic Advertising Campaign

03/10/2011 Written by Sebastian Moss

In a year filled with more PlayStation 3 exclusives than Kevin Butler job titles, 2011 will see Sony ramping up their marketing campaign to highlight their strong line-up. In the US, the company will be launching an “Only On PlayStation” campaign, while in the UK, Sony have upped their marking push for upcoming titles, including next week’s MotorStorm Apocalypse.

An incredible £850,000 has been invested in the UK alone, with MCVUK reporting that marketing highlights include being part of their year-long sponsorship of Channel 5 movies (that has already promoted LBP2) and 3D trailers that will be shown in cinemas, on Sky 3D and Sky’s Pub Channel.

Sony Product Manager Kerri West talked to MCV about MotorStorm Apocalypse Live, a tournament that pits several gaming communities against each other, held on Thursday, March 10th in a dilapidated Central London warehouse:

We will be making a lot of noise above the line at release but MotorStorm Apocalypse Live is the lynch pin of our strategy

Like the game, it’s edgy and extreme – pitching our media partners against each other will invoke a lot of community spirit. And it will ensure we stay at the forefront of gamers’ minds for a good long run-up to release day.

On top of that, monster truck-mounted demo stands will roll out to The Bullring in Birmingham and Westfield London.

Motorstorm: Apocalypse comes out on March 16th in Europe, 18th in the UK and April 12th in North America.

I also tried the demo, without 3D, and it does look good, however, the gameplay was less than stellar… I have a feeling it could be that specific map, or those awful new classes, but all in all I think the previous installments were better. I’d really have to see the rest of the game to judge it though as it just… it didn’t even feel like a racer…. Motorstorm must still exist somewhere in that game :/

the demo was awesome. l’m glad to see motorstrom go back to its roots with intense races and crazy crashes. Pacific Rift was pretty much a let down overall. It would appear they are back on track and pun intended

  4. i played the demo too , its awsome , too bad its only on the eu store , i was going to get it either way , but playing the demo pushed me to def buy it. i love how the race track changes while you race. the graphics look amazing.

I don’t know what it was…but the demo was boring to me…the racing aspect wasn’t all that exciting to me and I barely noticed when the destruction started until I suddenly ran into something that fell down in front of me. I’ll try it again and see if it was just my mood while trying it the first time and I also won’t dismiss the entire game just based on the demo but I wasn’t expecting to be wowed and just wasn’t. As it stands right now I would rather play Split/Second any day over Motorstorm

This is deff no motorstorm title… Seems as far removed from 1&2 as it could get! Yeah theres some fun but controls feel totally off and the destruction is just ‘OK’… Split Second seemed much smoother and nicer & this feels like a dodge copy with added bikes n trucks… I’ll deff give it a try as love motorstorm but feel they’ve sh*t the bed on this title… sadly :( Hope its just another bad demo…. Done it alot, u buy the game and realise the demo sucked LOL

  7. This game will be awesome especially playing in 3D. Imaging objects come flying out at you at 100 miles per hour? This is the racer to beat with alot of fun

When the demo eventually makes it to the US I’ll give it a try. Not real excited about the urban environments. Loved the lush green scenery, and wide-open spaces of Pacific Rift.
