With just over three weeks until Mortal Kombat hits store shelves, Netherrealm has surprisingly been able to keep the majority of the roster a secret. And even though gamers haven’t even had the chance to complain about who is missing, that hasn’t stopped them from revealing who will be added post launch.
In a conversation with CVG, Netherrealm’s, Hans Lo, announced that Kenshi, and “Scarlet,” would be released later as DLC. Those familiar with Mortal Kombat should already know who Kenshi is, but you may not know who Scarlet is. Scarlet is a character based off a glitch from old Mortal Kombat arcade machines which turned Jade, Kitana and Milena blood-red.
Hans Lo had this to say about Scarlet:
People always thought it was a hidden unlockable character and it wasn’t, it was purely a programming glitch.
She’s no longer a glitch – she’s an actual character, and she’ll be coming pretty soon post-launch.
This is a pretty smart move by Netherrealms, to take something that was originally an error, and turn it into profit. That being said, do you see yourself purchasing these characters right after launch?
Mortal Kombat hits store shelves April 19th in the US and April 21st in Europe.

They did the same for Ermac which was an error from part 2. Ermac was an error that meant “error machine”
that is pretty funny but why not just include her in the retail game? more milking of the dlc i guess.
Nailed it.
might as well quit complaining about it, companies trying to “milk” us for DLC isn’t going anywhere.
i’ll buy everything. But i bought Kollectors edition, so it would be better if i got it for free in the K.E.
How is her character FREE if you PAY EXTRA for a “collector’s” edition? Seriously, just think about it.
I guess cause he’s paying for the KE either way?
This could be a good thing. Depends….if the DLC seperate from whats on the disc, ok. However, if this is DLC thats already imprinted into the disc….then you shouldnt have to pay for it, it should be free when you buy the disc.
Now, im finding that some devs out there are making their games compliant with the latest firmware, to play. This is another bitch move I find annoying. What if you dont have an internet connection? Are you just screwed? BS.
As far as I know that’s nothing new, and when this has happened in the past the version of the firmware required is on the game disc. I remember a few years ago popping in a game, I think it was Burnout Paradise, and it updated my firmware, which was cool because I had no net at the time. I would expect that to still be the case…
I don’t mind Kenshi being made as DLC as much as I do Scarlet for a number of reasons mostly relating to how Scarlet is from the original MK era, and how I feel she deserves a proper introduction to the series instead of a nickel and diming. I actually wrote a rant article about it yesterday while my computer wasn’t connected, then firefox glitched out, and I lost the whole article, gonna have to rewrite it.
you do know the game has probally been final for a while , its just going threw the bug testing , if they added it on to the disc it would delay the game.
