Many gamers may have found themselves in a boring weekend so far due to the fact that the PlayStation Network is down, and there is no word on when it will be back up and running, adding insult to injury. Recently, Microsoft had their Xbox Nations event, and had some flamboyant words of choice to share about their competitor’s online “maintenance”.
Electronic Theatre recently asked Microsoft about the issues Sony is having to deal with, and here is what they had to say:
“Of course it’s regretful that Sony is encountering issues at such a busy time, and Microsoft takes no joy in the problems gamers are having playing their favourite games online.
The Xbox representative continued:
“That being said, we are expecting Microsoft’s robust online network to see an increase of traffic from those gamers who own both systems. Being able to play their games via the Xbox LIVE network could make all the difference for some gamers, and the Xbox Nations event will allow all of them to do just that – whether they have a Gold subscription or not.”
Stay tuned to PlayStation LifeStyle for any updated news on the status of the PlayStation Network. For the time being, be sure to check out Go Outside and Live Your Life, it’s probably your best bet in battling the pain resulting from having no PSN access.
It kinda sux how they shut like every1 down. Im starting 2 think tht Xbox is actually better.
Xbox live had a 10 day shutdown in 2008. Sony is doing this to protect the consumer. If you think about alot of users have credit card information that can damage alot of peoples lifes so if it only takes shutting down the system and repairing from the ground up i dont mind. I rather have my information secured then play on a online service that can give me a blow below the belt because of some intrusions. Plus you have to remember this is a free service, so it pretty good compared to Xbox live that have had alot of shutdown/outages and thats for people paying for the service. But most likely Sony will make it up to the users offering something. Though it sad it had to happen on a time that many users have brought some triple a titles and entered in betas.
Not to sound like an ass but there’s a significant difference between the ways the 2 companies handled the situation and even the situations for the shut downs themselves are different; M$ was completely vocal and informative about the situation every step of it’s downtime and offered a free game to make up for it, not to mention it was a issue of severs overloading due to the increase of new users because of the holiday season. On the flip side we have sony who hasn’t been that informative and claims an “external intrusion” and “security concerns” led to them to shut down PSN.
You can make your own judgement on what’s the better service, that personally is a matter of personal preference imo and won’t argue; but as far as customer care support and providing ETA’s on when the network will be back up sony has failed and it wouldn’t be a surprise to me at all if it turns out there was no external intrusion what-so-ever but rather a hick up on their end.
I don’t expect anything in the form of free content from a free service but I do at the very least like an honest explanation of the what really happened. If sony has the integrity to do so.
They probably could’ve at least wished them luck, or anything like that. I didn’t think there was a lot of heat between the two companies, they seemed to be friendly rivals (though maybe not the gamers as much).
Wow shadow, you do realize that not one system has 100% uptime right?
All you people bitching that XBL is better, you’ll be back when MS has their next big screw up and there is a 2 week outage. Oh, and enjoy paying to play your games online.
WTF? I wasnt bitching about any one console’s up or downtime! Everyone else here, has. Maybe you was confused and meant someone else.
On a side note, it appears that Sony has decided to ditch the old PSN network and create a brand new PSN, with better security measures. And since Sony cant seem to give a straight answer on when it’l be back up….it’s anyones guess. Could be a week, or more.
Let’s hope Pinky is right, though. ^_^
It may have been someone else who said that, if so then I apologize. However, if it IS anon’s fault for this, then THEY should be compensating us, not Sony. Are they going to compensate the paying customers they feel such sympathy for since they are the ones that directly caused the loss of money they say they feel bad about?
Didn’t think so.
I actually heard on Monday in Japan, PSN will turn back on, & on Tuesday in USA & Europe, it’ll turn back on. But idk if its true…..
Despite what Anonymous did with turning off the PSN I think for the most of it they actually fight noble causes, I heard about what they did in Egypt by going against Gadaffi in an attempt to bring the internet back the place and they’ve gone against The Scientolgist in the past. It makes me wonder why they’d be fighting what seems like such a petty problem in comparison to what Anonymous are used to doing.
They took down Paypal and Mastercard to protect Jullian Assenge, someone who is leagues above George Hotz for what he’s done. That information needed to be released to show the american people the corruptness of their goverment though perhaps some of the information protecting Anti-Al queda afghans could have been held back (for the good of them NOT being killed). But again it just seems weird. I think Anonymous need to be carefull in the future, despite whether their in the right and despite what any of us may think about what’s right and wrong,
Mastercard has money
Mastercard is many
Mastercard also happens to be greedy (they REALLY hate to lose money)
Mastercard never forgives
Mastercard never forgets
but anonymous really had balls to stand up to them
Assange is also accused in several countries of being a sex offender. Just sayin…he’s not as noble as America haters would have people believe.
Anonymous attacking MasterCard and Paypal hurt a lot more than MasterCard and Paypal. I depend on MasterCard partially, and Paypal heavily to conduct my business transactions. I have nothing to do with Assange or Wikileaks, nor do I care yet in Anonymous’ quest to impose their warped view of law and morality they hurt my ability to conduct business and make my living for me and my family as well as millions of others. They needs to just go away or be put in jail for what they are doing. They are hurting far more people than they are trying to help. I don’t care what their intentions are. The path to hell is paved with good intentions.
“The claims, which include rape, stem from sexual encounters Assange had with two women in August that began as consensual but, according to his accusers, became nonconsensual. Assange and his attorneys have claimed that Sweden’s public prosecutor is pursuing the former hacker at the behest of the U.S. government, as retribution for the embarrassing diplomatic cables published recently by WikiLeaks.” http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2037078,00.html
Anybody can be accused of rape. The allegations are also under new stricter laws that were not in place before. Regardless, if someone accused you of rape, are you no longer a noble human being?
