PSN Access Could Resume By Next Tuesday, But Only If “Secure”

04/27/2011 Written by Anthony Severino

The PlayStation Network has been down for an entire week now due to the massive security breach and Sony has now begun answering some of consumer’s burning questions: like exactly what info has been affected, what users can do to protect themselves, and when will the PlayStation Network return to action.

In a freshly posted Q&A that addresses most of user’s significant concerns, Sony revealed when we could see the PlayStation Network resume service. Patrick Seybold, Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media for SCEA, said that Sony employees are “working day and night to restore operations as quickly as possible” and the PlayStation Network could be back up “within week from yesterday”.  However, Seybold says that they’ll do so only if they’re “confident that the network is secure”.

    I approve of this message.

  2. 2 weeks? *laughs hysterically* *laughter turns to uncontrollable crying* HACKERS MUST DIE.

  3. Meh, if it makes it more secure and the douchebaggery surrounding jailbreak disappear — rejoice!

If this keeps online games from being hacked so easily I’ll accept the down time. My only question is how is Sony going to recoup the cost of this security “upgrade”?

Will we all pay the price for one little boy’s dream to become a real “boy’?

I hope sooner but it’s just such a bad deal for PSN users in general. I can’t stand hackers because they only hurt good situations for people in generals and make the environment for such as good service want to gear towards a pay to play service so that they can afford hardcore internet security. How do people that do these things justify themselves without seeming like the worst of human beings. I could expect this from someone from another country or like Alkida to hurt all eastern countries. But an American or an European doesn’t make any sense, and anyone that wants to defend such actions, should be curb stomped with no remorse. Or just a freak loser, slacker, half-assed human being that doesn’t desire to be treated like a human-being but like a crazied animal that has no moral compass. If you don’t agree with what I say then go fuck yourself. You next up for the curb stomping!!!!

The main thing that Sony needs to do is make sure they fix the problem before bringing PSN back up. Once it’s back online, it better not go down again soon after, or else people are going to be super pissed. So, Sony, take your time and fix the issue. I don’t care if PSN is down for two more weeks, if that’s what it takes to take care of the problem and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

BTW, guys, there is a rumor of Cross Game Chat being implemented into the PSN while they’ve got this downtime. So, we may get that once the network is back online. That would be a nice consolation for being down a couple weeks. :)

    • That sounds like a huuuuuge troll to me. As far as I know cross game chat could only be implemented by the game developers as the patent for the feature on the console itself is held by MS.

      • Yes I believe you’re correct and that Microsoft has the patent rights to cross-game chat, and I doubt they will allow Sony to use it.

I think the article was listed under Kotaku sometime ago. Anyways, who wants to chat with others while trying to play Socom, or any other team-based shooter?

I don’t even care for the lame message system. Did hear a rumor about am interest they had in Skype, but I think it would cut into the bandwidth too much.

Lies, I assure you. It is in your best interest to not be so gullible, as these types of rumors do nothing bit give peoples hopes up and taunt them with what will never be. I swear some people do it just to disappoint people or cause more grief towards sony.

  7. Blkant says:

Why were these broken down into two different posts….

  8. Jacky says:

ummm, i kinda confused now though. cuz sony said they have something planned for the 30th of april and this weekend. plus they said it would be back up within this week.

Awesome this is great news. I can’t wait in till the PSN is up again.

  11. They can take their time as long as it needs for PSN to be truly SAFE.
Most people don’t have patience because they’re spoiled.
    Multiplayer,trophies etc.
These didn’t exist in Psx and early Ps2 days and we had twice the fun then(better quality titles) than this generation.
but even in this generation games have a single player campaign.

  12. I was hoping PSN would be up and running earlier but if that’s what it takes to make it secure then by all means take your time Sony

One thing that will come out from this fiasco is that people will learn to appreciate PSN more as it is provided for free. We just don’t realise what we are missing until it’s gone. We should all appreciate that PSN is free.

  13. By all means take your time Sony aslong as when PSN comes back up its more secure and we shouldn’t worry about losing it in the future. We need to just play SP for now I won’t lie I miss playing UC2 MP but for now I am enjoying the PoP series the way I used to back on the PS2 days :)

Next Tuesday? So like this coming Tuesday or two Tuesdays from now? I always argue about the use of the word next with my wife. Damn you PSLS for starting this argument with her again! *shakes fist* ;)

  15. Lee says:

lets just hope its up next Tues, but Sony said also they wont be putting all feats of psn their doing part by part. which means will be able to just sign n change our info and such, play online most likly on tues that will be it. all i want is to have psn working smoothly 100% again, and to have this hackers be caught no trial but thrown into a circle of a mob with angry gamers so we all can mk fatality them

this day will live in infamy for the sony community but you know what we will move on and we will get stronger and rebuild to maximum capacity we can.

  16. I DON’T F***ING CARE IF MY INFORMATION WAS F***ING COMPROMISED I WANT TO PLAY!!!!!!!!! ITS BEEN LIKE A F***ING YEAR ALREADY!!!!!!!!!

  17. I DON’T F***ING CARE IF MY INFORMATION WAS F***ING COMPROMISED I WANT TO PLAY!!!!!!!!! ITS BEEN LIKE A F***ING YEAR ALREADY!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHH IM GOING 2 DIEEEE!!!!!
