Atlus has announced that it will be bringing its smash hit tactical RPG Growlanser IV: The Wayfarer of Time to the PlayStation Portable, having seen previous release on the PS2 in December of 2003. It’ll be receiving a few upgrades and getting a slightly modified title: Growlanser IV Overload.
Check out the first dozen screens below:
Two new characters with fleshed-out back stories will be added to this edition including Trishia (the girl in green, seen above), and “Familiar Spirit D-MD,” who maintains the attitude that non-humans like herself are best put to use in any way they can be. There will also be new story arcs in place alongside visual upgrades to the cutscenes.
Growlanser IV is regarded by many fans as the best in the series, though those stateside were dismayed when Atlus USA chose Growlanser V: Heritage of War — commonly looked upon with a lot less love — for localization instead of the fourth game. Being such an early announcement, and lacking even a Japanese release date, it’s of course too soon to tell if the PSP version will arrive on any shores outside Japan.

Coming from someone whos never played a Growlanser game before, how good are they?
If this doesnt get a PSN release as well, gonna be upset.
The Growlanser Generations pack on PS2 is pretty great, mostly because of Growlanser 2 being awesome and Growlanser 3 being kinda meh — clearly a throw-in. It’s available in English, but you’ll likely have to troll eBay for it. Shiz got rare.
They’re good if you like tactical RPGs and want to play something other than FF Tactics and Disgaea.
Ah, im a huge Tactics(my first tactical RPG)/Disgaea fan so this should be right up my ally. I was looking on Amazon, i dont trust eBay, and saw some good deals. You have swayed me to obtain this.
On the topic of tactical RPGs, have you played either the Valkyria Chronicles series or the PSP’s Tactics Ogre remake? Those are also pure love that you can easily pick up in a store while you wait for Growlanser to ship.
(I practically have a fetish for TRPGs >_>)
