Leaked Mortal Kombat DLC Increases Fight Roster

05/06/2011 Written by Tyler Minarik

It’s been no secret that the new Mortal Kombat game would eventually receive DLC to keep players interested, but until now we could only guess at what most of that would include.

Sure, we already knew that Skarlett and Kenshi were on the upcoming DLC queue well before the game even released, but Ed Boon made it very apparent there would be plenty of other DLC characters as well. Until now we’ve really had no good hints on who it could be, or if there were any plans for content other than bonus characters. Now thanks to a couple new videos that have surfaced on youtube we can see a couple more characters that seem likely to join the ranks.

The first video shows us a previously unheard of fighter, called “DLC Basemale”. Clearly this is a placeholder character, but the important bit is when he’s selected from the roster menu, where the announcer very clearly says “Fujin”.  For those who don’t know, Fujin is the Shinto god of wind, and within the Mortal Kombat universe he adheres closely to this trait. Fujin made his first appearance in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, and then later in Mortal Kombat 4. Thus it makes sense for him to be a DLC character, since he was never originally involved in the events of Mortal Kombat 1-3.

The next reveal has a little less effect on the roster, and is purely aesthetic. It appears that both Cyrax and Sektor will be donning their old costumes from Mortal Kombat 3, and the following video shows them duking it out a bit in their classic duds.

While technically these leaks should probably stay in the rumor bin for the moment, those videos are pretty convincing. We’ve also heard that hackers toying with the data on the disc have already managed to unlock Kenshi and Skarlett, although without complete move sets. We expect that information to be filled in upon purchasing the yet to be released DLC. It’s also been said that bosses Goro, Kintaro and Shao Kahn are on the disc as well with full move sets, including fatalities, which seems to indicate they may be unlockable as well at some point. Whether that would be done through a cleverly hidden method in game, or if they need to be purchased eventually, is yet to be seen, but it seems unlikely they’d put that there for nothing. Whatever the outcome, it’s clear we have some new fighters coming our way, and when we have solid confirmation PlayStation LifeStyle will let you know.

quite honestly I’m enjoying this game so much right now if they chose to add enough characters to double the roster I would not hesitate to get every one of them…even though it would be exploiting us for DLC $$$

  4. Hey, sorry I have to post this here but getting around this site is complicated at the moment and I’m not sure who I would e-mail about this. This is for PSlifestyle staff and well anyone else. I’m on Firefox and whenever I try to load up the articles it says this site has been reported as a Badware site and tries to block it. I can get around it but I usually have to press a lot of buttons. It might just be firefox, I’ve tried someone elses computer and it was the same thing there. Hopefully this is just affecting me, but I thought I’d try and bring it to the attention of the staff if possible. Hopefully they read this comment :) If not, if someone could e-mail this to them or point me in the right direction that would be great. I’ll try and get back to this page when I can.

    • Yeah I emailed Sev about this earlier but I haven’t gotten a response. No idea what’s happening but I haven’t gotten a virus or anything by disabling the block.

Same here. one of their affiliate links is probably being flagged as malware for some reason by chrome and firefox.

      • Hi guys, just wanted to let you know that we are aware of this problem. PSLS was the subject of an attack but it was quickly dealt with and is perfectly safe – google keeps things flagged for ages to be careful. No one has been exposed to any malware as we managed to stop it reaching the public.

We will be providing a full and detailed update on the attack shortly, once everything is back to normal (but rest assured nothing was compromised).

        Thanks :)

        Seb

      • BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR CREDIT CARD INFO???

jk haha good job with the update.

      • Haha, don’t worry, we encrypted it

  5. First PSN gets attacked and now PSLS. What’s next?? Is it because of this there hasn’t been the updates from the PS blogs?

hmmm though the “fujin” or “base male” character doesn’t look like something i’d want, i still think more dl characters the better! the more characters, the more fatalities and the more people to fight with and against!! YAY!

Love to see Shinnok in MK but since he have Shang Tsung no need for him. Would love to see Rain, Motaro from MK3. I hope Goro, Kintaro and Khan aren’t like MvC3 where you have to pay $5 each to unlock them on the disc.

You know it must suck as a game developer or game company, almost everytime a developer or company has some cool news or dlc to announce someone leaks the news or the dlc. If I were a game developer or game company I would be upset.

  9. Timewarp says:

actually I think it can help slightly, it’s spreading the news of the DLC just as much as the official release of the DLC would have and when they announce it themself more people who didn’t see this will become aware.

That being said I don’t see how this spoils the DLC for anyone. We don’t know what the character will look like (Though I’m being to think hardcore Mortal Kombat fans will correct me here) or he’s fatalities/moves.

OMFG Sick! Got this game on tuesday and love it and can’t wait for the classic cyrax and sektor. I would bet shao kahn, kintaro and goro are available through secret means already knowing the developers history of adding secret unlockables, wonder how long it will take for some

FYI to anyone playing, you can get easy money by starting a ladder on “beginner”, picking an easy to use character, i recommend noobing it out with Kitanas fan toss, get as many Flawless victories and do fatalaties for as long as you can. You get 1000 points per Flawless victory and another 250 for a fatality, bablaities are 500. rinse, repeat.
Also there are 4 “hidden” chest in the Krypt that contain 5000 each, they say they cost 5000, but it doesnt charge you.
Currently on 274 of tower and no skips. so close…
