As was briefly mentioned in our previous report, Namco Bandai’s upcoming PSP space combat action title Gundam Memories: Memories of Battle (Tatakai no Kioku) will have two different gameplay types: Situation Mode and Mission Mode. Both are on display in these screens and trailer.
First, let’s take a look at the latest trailer. This video shows the player switching from among three suits in battle, each of which is best equipped for a certain type of combat. There’s one that’s best at staying long range and lobbing projectiles, one that’s best for just walking up and smashing stuff, and one “Speed Type” that serves as the token less powerful but way faster machine.
It shows each suit performing special moves called “Special Trigger” attacks, which become available when a gauge on the bottom of the screen is full. I like the last one, in which the projectile-focused Gundam throws everything but the kitchen sink at his opponent.

Next up, we’ve got a whole bunch of screenshots:
Gundam Memories is scheduled to go on sale June 23 in Japan, with no date in sight for other territories. The PSP sadly isn’t doing nearly as well abroad as it is in Asia, so localization is questionable.

Love the looks of this. I hope its gameplay is actually as fun as the trailers make it look.
FYI Your my favorite semi-quasi journalist.
I’m probably also the only one that walks around saying that out loud, in those exact words.
(Also, thank you.)
Damn, that looked badass. Why is the PSP such a badass (in japan)?
The trailer and screenshots for Gundam Memories: Memories of Battle were pretty cool. I hope Gundam Memories: Memories of Battle gets released in North America but I doubt it will. Curse you Japan and your many anime games I would like to play but I can’t because the games are almost never released in North America!!!
Hopefully the digital age can change some of this, so that games that don’t get physical releases can at least get digital ones (See: NISA’s digital-only releases of Badman 2 and Cladun.)
I mean, the reason they don’t come over is that the devs can’t convince any North American publishers that they’ll actually sell and make a profit, but when you take shipping, cases, and discs out of the mix, you don’t need to sell as many copies to make your money back.
…And yet I prefer physical media so I’m pretty torn
That would be awesome if they released the games in a digital format. I would definitely buy them despite the fact I’m more of a physical format type of guy like yourself Heath. Also if I were a North American publisher I would take a risk and publish some anime games in physical or digital format.
loved the Ps1 side-scrolling version more
