PS3 Exclusive Starhawk Makes Official Debut on GTTV

05/13/2011 Written by Anthony Severino

Even though the game was “accidentally” leaked earlier today by two major video game outlets, the official reveal wasn’t supposed to happen until later in the evening on GameTrailers TV. Which has now happened, and we can confirm that it was indeed Dylan Jobe and Lightbox Interactive’s Starhawk.

Starhawk is coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 and will take place in an area called “The Frontier.” It will include a single player story, unlike Warhawk, which focuses on a war over “Rift Energy” or “Blue Gold” to between the two factions Outcasts and Rift Miners, as well as the usual multiplayer modes. Rift Energy plays a big part in both multi and singleplayer, with gamers rewarded with energy for kills and actions and able to spend it as an in-game currency.

Ditching SixAxis for good, Jobe promised a whole new game experience that will be very different to Warhawk, with the first stand out difference being the RTS-like ability to be able to create turrets, structures and even troops. “We wanted to make creating units as easy and visceral as pulling the trigger on a weapon” said Jobe, explaining troop spawning.

We’ll be sure to update you with more information and the full trailers as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, be sure to check out the game’s leaked screens.

See, I knew the similarities to Red Faction were more than just the looks of that level… Hell even the story is a little too close…

    • So you’re worried that it is kinda similar to one series, when the changes make it less similar to pretty well every military shooter? Just think about it that way, its not so bad after all :)

      • Blkant says:

It is to me because I wanted a true sequel to warhawk. Also I really did not like the recent TPS Red Faction. I mean thats just it, I just wanted a bigger and better warhawk, and this really from what I can tell so far has nothing to do with warhawk.

Mostly though, I just think its creepy how my initial impression turned out to be more accurate than I thought, and not in a good way. :P

In any case, while it isn’t warhawk (sadly) I cannot judge it for what it is until I’ve tried it. As it is not warhawk but a totally different game, so it deserves a chance of course. Hopefully there will be a beta to get my hands on in the near future.

      • Yeah that makes sense. I never really played the first so I wasn’t thinking that way. It is kinda impossible to tell exactly how much the story is involved with the gameplay at this point though, no matter how valid your comparisons are there is still the chance that they are just that, some visual comparison and base story comparison. Hopefully the news starts coming a lot quicker than it has so far so we can find out.

  2. awsome pretty happy they included a single player mode. looks like this game will give socom 4 a run for its money.

  3. Mark says:

I don’t care about this. I will when PSN is up.

    • Blkant says:

      Wait… That is relevant how?

      • Randal says:

Because it allows me to vent.

OMG is anyone else as excited as me that the PSN may, MAY, be coming back on tomorrow?! I am so excited! Just beat Killzone 3 on elite, not as hard as Killzone 2 but thats only cause Raddik was a bitch, and now i want to go online! Online! ONLINE!! WOOOOOHOOOO! Waffles.

      • Are you referring to the “at least a few more days” news or has there been something since then?
Anyway if when up if anybody wants to join me to tear up NHL 11 online shoot me a message, i’ll probably be playing for like 12 hours when it’s first up.

      • Jacky says:

oh god watch out! everybody run johnny’s on a hockey rampage!

      • Blkant says:

        @Randal

        Aww… My cupcake :’(

      • Jacky says:

someone mention cupcakes? dammit now i want a cupcake!

      • @Jacky
Haha. I believe the technical term is “Canadian during the playoffs”.

      • Jacky says:

or the term “johnny on a online hockey rampage” ?

      • Blkant says:

At first I was just going along with his Gir reference, but damn now that you mention it I want a cupcake now too… x_x

      • Actually oddly enough that is somehow the original Latin translation. It has confused Historians around the world for decades.

      • Jacky says:

gir rocks! and i really want a cupcake now………………….with milk!!!!!

      • Randal says:

Just made cupcakes, who wants one? Theres cupcake in it!

      • Randal says:

        @Johnny

Yeah im going off the “few more days” praying the next update is today and isnt about how they found more problems. Its driving me crazy they wont even give a quick update for 2 days, all i need is “Hey guys/gals. Just a quick update to let you know everything is going fine.” or “We found some more problems and has set us back a bit.” You know?

I just need my online trophies for KZ3 and ive got another plat.

      • Jacky says:

        @randal

I DO!!!! GIMME ONE! i’ll pay ya!

      • Damn, I’m gonna have to buy some cupcakes now

  5. ccut2 says:

  6. dhughes60 says:

Dylan Jobe really didn’t say that much about Starhawk but I’m happy to hear him talk about it anyway.

  7. noob says:

I love Warhawk, This game looks fucking 100 times better, One of my most anticipated now!

  8. Chong says:

Story sounds like a crude mock up of red factions.

I want to see this game turn out amazing but to me it looks like they may have thrown too much into the sandbox; then again they haven’t released the info on how many players could be in a match.

The trailer didn’t leave me impressed but it certainly has left me curious about the game, E3 will be an awesome source of info on this game and can’t wait until we hear more details.

  9. tiger7758 says:

Finally a game that isn’t an FPS and is a different TPS.
I trust Dylan completely with this game.
