A package of free games and PlayStation Plus membership – which Sony decided to give PlayStation Network users for free due to the PSN outage – entitled the ‘Welcome Back’ package was announced a few weeks ago. Now that the PlayStation Store has finally resumed normal service, Sony has announced that the Welcome Back program is now available.

PlayStation Network members who signed up before the PSN outage – April 20th – can select up to two free games for the PlayStation 3, as well as the PlayStation Portable. These include (for North American users):

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

PSP selection:

  • LittleBigPlanet
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

For European PlayStation Network users the Welcome Back package consists of:

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

PSP games:

  • LittleBigPlanet
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

Sony also offered a detailed Q&As on the PS Blog:

When will I have access to the Welcome Back Program?

  • The content offered as part of the Welcome Back Program is available for download today and will be available through July 3.

I have both PS3 and PSP. Does this mean I will get 4 games all together?

  • Yes, as long as you were a PSN member before April 20, 2011, you’ll be able to receive up to 4 games based on the titles listed above; 2 on each platform.

Are there any limitations to the PS3 and PSP games we are receiving as part of the Welcome Back Program?

  • None. These games are yours to keep.

How long do I have to get into the PlayStation Store and receive my content for Welcome Back?

  • Access to the Welcome Back content will be expiring on July 3. Once this date has passed, the Welcome Back section in the PlayStation Store will be removed.

When does the 30 days of my PlayStation Plus access expire?

  • Your PlayStation Plus 30-day access will expire 30 days from the date you activated it in PlayStation Store.

When will (insert game here) be published?

  • Look forward to posts over the coming days that will show what content will be available at that point, or coming soon. We’re planning frequent store publishes offering lots of new content for everyone to enjoy.

I’m getting 30 days of access to PlayStation Plus; can you refresh my memory on what I get with this service?

  • From the time you activate your 30 days of PlayStation Plus, you’ll be able to download games and game related content, purchase select store items at a discount, and have access to the exclusive features of Plus. You’ll also be able to get early access to any Plus exclusive Demos and priority Beta invitations that might be scheduled during your 30 days.

Do I get to keep the games in PlayStation Plus forever?

  • Content that is free in PlayStation Plus will not be available after your PlayStation Plus time has expired. However, if you decide to join PlayStation Plus, you’ll have access to all of the content you downloaded during your 30 day access for as long as you are a subscriber.

Do I get to keep any games or content I purchased with the PlayStation Plus discount?

  • Yes. Any content you purchase at a discount is yours to keep, regardless of your subscription status.

Aside from the games and discounts; does PlayStation Plus offer anything else?

  • Yes! PlayStation Plus includes the Online Storage for Game Saves feature, allowing you to backup treasured game saves or access them from another PS3. In addition, you get the Automatic Download feature, which automatically updates your 10 most recently played games while the system is in stand-by mode so you don’t have to wait for updates before playing your games.

What content will be in PlayStation Plus when I activate my 30 days?

  • PlayStation Plus content and discounts are regularly updated throughout the month. For up-to-date information on content within PlayStation Plus, please visit the Plus homepage.

Where can I find the Welcome Back content in Home?

  • The 100 virtual items can be found in the kiosk in Home’s Central Plaza along with two personal spaces – Dragon’s Lair and the Mansion Garage. A new game – Ooblag’s Alien Casino – will be released soon (June 2011). This game will be 100% free-to-play. As an added bonus, players that access the Ooblag Alien Casino space will be rewarded an active item version of the Ooblag game that can be played in your personal space(s).

So, what are you waiting for? Go download your free games!

  1. Gonna go ahead and copy and paste this from my Facebook page.

“Selected your game from the Welcome Back package and didn’t get to pick your game? No problem! If this happened, go to the XMB and under the PlayStation Network column, go to Account Management>Transaction Management>Services List>SCEA Promotions to download the game for that first slot.”

Hope that solves any issues. Sure as hell worked for me!

  2. draegen says:

Yeah. All great except there’s still issues. The Playstation store is locking up. There are multiple error codes 80710D36. And when I went to select free game 1 or free game 2 it froze, popped up the error and now the free game 1 and 2 icons are gone. My secondary account can’t even log in. Sigh.

  3. Yeah. It totally screwed me. I didn’t get shit. Thanks, DeAno Jackson

  4. Axl Rose says:

Me too, didn´t get shit, so FUCK it! I have been unable to BUY like I always do my PSP games from the store, and now THE 2 games that I really wanted were going to be given for free, but due to a LAME PSN SERVICE I got NOTHING! FUCK THIS! I will hack my PSP and get ALL GAMES FOR FREE! This is what you are doing to your MOST LOYAL CUSTOMERS Sony WAY TO GO!

  5. Axl Rose says:

I did good sir, I have been in several forums, and IT DOESNT SHOW UP for me, it did for my brother, but not for me.

  6. bond2e2 says:

Sony will fix this all I am sure, the store is probably being overloaded with all the people going online and trying to get the games.

  7. Andrew says:

I just looked at my download queue and apparently it started to download my selected games, even though I got an error message. It was downloading Infamous 3 times, and Wipeout twice. I kind of expected hiccups like this with such a large undertaking by Sony, but it’s still a bit annoying.

    • yep, thats all we gotta do. i kept getting an error message, but instead of getting all pissed off like what everyone else is doing, i just went to the download list and boom got that dead nation going. tomorrow im getting LBP.

  8. Lee says:

the error code 80710d36 has been happening since psn store was up yesterday, the store server is most likly getting massive overloaded with people buying/dl things. the free stuff in home is also getting the same error code. hopefully Sony fixes it sometime over the weekend. at least the store is up its better than no store.

  9. NukeA6 says:

LOL at the huge bum rush. It’s not like the Welcome Back package is gonna expire so soon.

  10. Jeremiah says:

Any recommendations for the PSP choices? I picked LBP but can’t decide on the others; thinking Modnation just because it’s a bigger file, but I really don’t care about any of them, from what I’ve seen.

FIX FOR ANYONE GETTING THE DISAPPEARING GAMES DUE TO AN ERROR

On your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable navigate to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB
Log into your PlayStation Network account and choose Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List
Choose “PlayStation Network Promotions” from the list of services displayed
Select either “PS3 Free Games” or “PSP Free Games” and then choose “Select Content”

  12. Its going to take me ages to download all i want :P I spent 4 hours downloading a few things so far(yeah my internet is slow) I’ll do the rest tomorrow + i am waiting for the Japan + China store to. Hopefully they will have loads to + E3 coming next week…oh LORD! :D

  13. Randal says:

Huge problem, when i go to the game selection inFamous isnt listed. Can someone help me out with that or am i out that choice?

    • Jeremiah says:

My guess is that it has to do with the full game trial, assuming you had it. I played and completed it and it showed up for me; maybe if you never finished it does not show up? For me, Super Stardust did not show up, but I already owned it.

      • Jeremiah says:

Sorry to double post but I just wanted to say I also deleted the install of the full game trial (since I wasn’t going to buy it), but I did keep the saves. Maybe if this is the problem you have to redownload it.

      • Randal says:

I had gotten the inFamous full game trial and deleted the game data and save data, but still did not show up. I check the game in the Game section and it said i had already bought it, and i was able to download it free. I did not buy the game since i already had the disc and wasnt going to spend $30 for it, but looks like Sony gave me 3 free games instead of two.

        Problem solved :) .

  14. ZemaOner says:

After trying to download and failing… I went to the Download List icon on the top right of the Playstation Store and was able to start downloading from there.

Now I see why it took so long to get the store online…they had to put this massive welcome back project together. An amazing achievement!(even though it’s not working 100%)

  15. Natiej85 says:

I’m think I’m just gonna download my psp game to my PS3 til either I can free up some space or get another card.

  16. Natiej85 says:

PSN is pissin me off with the whole if you back up your system with movies and what not you still have to activate them if you have a new system cause you old on broke. Why doesn’t it record on the back up that your file works with which ever single console is activated on your account instead of having to download like 70 FUCKIN movies again. It’s rediculious!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Richy2k9 says:

    hello …

    thank you SONY :)

    cheers!

  18. dhughes60 says:

I downloaded all of my free content a couple of a days ago and I’m loving it! Thanks Sony for the free content!

  19. Gweezel says:

I attempted to download Little Big Planet for the PS3. It appeared to download fine. However, the version I got was for the PSP, and there is no option to get the PS3 version. Anyone know what the heck is going on.

I don’t have a PSP and have no intentions of getting one.
