Silent Hill HD Collection Is PS3 Exclusive

06/12/2011 Written by Josh Fernandes

HD “Collections” are the latest trend in gaming. It all started when Sony released the God of War: Collection featuring God of War I & II back in November of 2009. Since then, HD Collections have been released for the Prince of Persia Trilogy, the Sly Cooper Trilogy, and the Tomb Raider Trilogy. There are also plans for a Metal Gear Solid Collection, Splinter Cell Collection, Zone of the Enders Collection, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, and a collection for the PSP God of War titles. And as of recently, you could officially add Silent Hill to that long list of HD Collections.

When Konami announced the Silent Hill Collection during their pre-E3 conference, they did not mention for what platforms it would be released on. But during E3, they revealed that it will be PS3 exclusive. Tom Hulett of Konami explained:

It’s always been a primarily Sony platform series, so right now we’re just aiming at a Sony exclusive, which isn’t to say in the future it won’t be available anywhere else, but right now it’s Sony exclusive.

Let us know if you will be picking up the HD Collection, later this year, in the comments below.

This: “which isn’t to say in the future it won’t be available anywhere else” troubles me.

But for now, this: :D Defines my reaction :P

SH is indeed a true PS classic, having the beginning of the series on the first PS, and the 2, 3 starting as exclusives, where the 3 was the only of the two to stay as an exclusive.

I do hope for trophies to be added on as well, for SH 2 and 3, two of my favorite games.

  2. Now if only someone could do a ‘TimeSplitters HD’ collection for the PS3! :P :P :P

  3. You could say the same thing for the MGS collection because MGS has been a PS mainstay. If this is exclusive then the MGS collection should be aswell. Just sayin’

    • well silent hill started off with sony , there was what 1 on the xbox , and then home coming on the 360 , but other then that 1-4 was on the ps2 , but as for metal gear it actually started with nintendo , i know metal gear has been a big part of sony system , but its never really been sony’s game. if anything the fact nintendo kept with the cart system , forced games like final fantasy and metal gear leave nintendo to be played on a disc based system.

Metal Gear started on the MSX, same for Contra, same for Castlevania. MSX.

And Kojima NEVER, not once, developed a game for a Nintendo console. The first Metal Gear was some kind of “port” he utterly dislikes ’cause it was butchered. Then the second, real sequel “Metal Gear Solid Snake never saw the light on any console (until it was remastered for PS2 as part of MGS3 Subsistence), and Kojima, who always was far ahead of its time, moved on and never even tried to make a game for cartridges. His next projects were Snatcher and Policenauts for PC. And then it was time for MGS. So you could say Kojima has never been directly involved with Nintendo.

      • i said metal gear ? not Kojima.

Damn right I’m buying this. This was something I had hoped would happen for the longest time.

  5. i my self love these collections , can’t wait for the splinter cell games in hd with trophy support. silent hill 2 and 3 were some one of the best looking and best ps2 games they were some of the games that showed off the ps2′s power. hopefully it will draw some intrest back into the series , down pour imo is looking good atm. btw im 100% sure both silent hill 2 and 3 will have trophy support i don’t see why they wouldn’t.

    • Jeremiah says:

Yeah, I would expect them to have trophy support, but it seems weird when the one made for PS3 (Homecoming) never got trophies.

      • i forgot if trophies were around when homecoming came out , if it did , then it was durring the time sony didn’t enforce the trophy system and left it up to developers to add them in or not, then after 2009 i belive sony enforced ps3 games after that date had to have the trophy system in any psn/ps3 game.

  6. Being the biggest Silent Hill head ever there is no doubt that I’m getting getting this. I have every game published here in the states, bought every soundtrack and just know too damn much about its complex story and beautiful music. Now I can’t wait for Shadows of the Damned next week…
