Listen up kiddies. Back when I was a young boy, many moons ago, there were these things called “arcades” (pronounced ärˈkāds). They’re still around today, but almost nobody goes to them anymore. Many of the memorable coin-operated (yes, you had to insert coins to play – no new-fangled debit cards accepted) were made by SNK. Now, decades later, SNK Playmore is bringing these classics of yesteryear to the PlayStation Network.
OK, so maybe you remember arcades, but chances are, you don’t remember these titles. They’re even a little hazy for me. That doesn’t mean that oldies can’t be goodies, and if that’s the case, then these are really, really good.
SNK Playmore has announced that not one, but eight pre-NEOGEO era SNK classics, will be arriving in today’s PlayStation Store update. The following titles will be available as PlayStation miniS, and playable on both the PSP and PS3.
Each title will be available for $2.99 each, but Guerrilla War will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
I remember Ikari Warriors! I think I traded my copy of Excite bike or Skate or Die with my friend for it (OoOoh, yes I “stole” from the developers).
And yes I hate those new arcades with the card slot. The one time I used them at Dave & Busters, it was confusing and didnt like it. I think thats the point, to confuse you about how much “credit” you have. Whats so wrong with just inserting coins?
If Vanguard is the game I think it is, I have the Invincibility theme as my ringtone.
Ikari Warriors was my favorite game in the late 80′s Oh to drive the tank again.
Zzzzz….SNK please give us Samurai Shodown 2 already!
