Insomniac Games reckons that the PlayStation 3 still has plenty of life left in it, with the studio expecting the same leap in quality in upcoming PS3 titles as there was in late generation PS2 games. Cameron Christian and writer Jon Paquette have shared their thoughts on how they believe the best is yet to come.
Speaking in regards to pushing PS3 even further, Christian told CVG:
I think it does [have more to give]. Each year we’re finding better ways to optimise and different ways to program for it. Being more efficient, figuring out new tricks to get better looking graphics… we can keep pushing that I think. We can focus more on content at the moment because we understand the hardware. I think that’s big.
Insomniac writer Jon Paquette then reinforced Christian’s statement:
You remember when the PS2 first came out? The games that came out at the end of that cycle, when people got better at using the hardware, improved. So I think there’s still a lot of life in there. I feel like if there’s too much console rollover then it makes it harder for us to become experts at the console and take full advantage of it.
Developers of the Resistance and Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac no doubt know the intricacies of the PS3′s hardware. God of War 2, one of Sony’s last games released on PlayStation 2 pushed graphical boundaries. Perhaps, fans can expect that same leap in quality before Sony announces the inevitable PS4.
BAM!!! Direct punch to Sledgehammer.
I think I’ll listen to the people that work exlusively with the console than the tards that start whining when they have to port their games to PS3.
this coming from a developer that knows the PS3 inside and out rather than a nobody developer just trying to make excuses as to why their game can’t be better (Uh hummm….Sledgehammer with MW3)
I agree! I still don’t think Insomniac has its head around the PS3 yet! Still waiting for that good game from them!
their games are good but flawed
have potential yet never realized it
great vusals sometimes with crappy details
poor visuals and crappy everything other times
they are just struggling
have you ever played the Ratchet and Clank series?? That series is their best work, Resistance is solid, but everything from visuals, to story, to gameplay has been perfected for the Ratchet and Clank series….though I am a little concerned for the upcoming R&C game, I really hope it feels like the real deal.
Well i thought the R&C games looked brilliant really. I thought i was in a Pixar film!
R1 + R2 where ok but R3 looks really good so far. I hope they keep on making R&C games just for the PS3 + another new game just for the PS3;)
+ It’s strange how no one says anything bad about the Xbox 360′s graphics & how(the rare, LoL)Xbox360 exclusive games look average? ? ? WHY? ? ?
No one says anything because its become common knowledge. Its old, it has a DVD drive for crying out loud. While most ps3 specific developers are working on how to expand the horizon of ps3 games, most 360 exclusive devs are working on better compression methods. Same for multiplat devs. Now insomniac will find this out first hand themselves. I do wish them luck though, but don’t forget your roots or lose your core.
average?! Halo 3 came out years ago, but the gfx for that game were amazing. They actually new how to get the water right. What’s with all these kids wanting great graphical games but poor gameplay? I’d rather enjoy a game rather than looking at how well it looks.
maybe Halo 3 was ahead of its time but Halo Reach looks horrible
It does as long as you put a Tb Hdd in and use it as an entertainment machine. As soon as something with tons of ram comes in a console…hopefully soon..I probably will stop buying games for it and use it for movies and “oldie games”
I still think the first years of a new console are so fun and you are on edge for almost any new game they comeout with. Doesnt anyone else ever feel this way?
