Skyrim on PS3 “Getting a Ton of Attention”

08/31/2011 Written by Josh Lewis

Skyrim director, Todd Howard recently stated that the development team had completely rewritten the graphics engine to make the 360 version of the game look good, but very little has been said about the PS3 build. Pete Hines has shared some details that should calm any fears for fans that want to purchase the game on PlayStation.

When asked if the PS3 version of Skyrim will be at the same graphic level of 360, Hines replied on Twitter:

Yes, PS3 and 360 have reached a good place of parity….framerate, fidelity, etc. The PS3 version is getting a ton of attention.

Hines also specified why there haven’t been any PS3 specific screens or footage of Skyrim released to date:

We don’t ever specify what platform screens or footage comes from. It’s usually a mix.

It’s not exactly a big industry secret that overall quality can suffer if games are ported from one console to another, luckily this doesn’t seem to be the case here. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is set to launch on November 11th.

I’m not sure if that is meant in a good way or a bad way, and in any case, if they are willing to put so much attention into it then why not cut the exclusive DLC bullshit…

  2. I believe it’s too late to save face on this one everyone knows what’s really up, the reality is we’re getting a port that will likely feature more bugs and problems than the 360 version; meh maybe i’ll have to break and purchase the 360 version since it looks like mod support isn’t coming at all.

I mean even Epic who panders to the 360 added mod support for unreal tourny 3 back in 2007 for christ sakes, something’s wrong here.

  3. ZombieHell says:

So how exactly is the PS3 version of Skyrim getting a lot of attention?

  4. BiosNova says:

We all know ALL the videos and screens have been from the 360, he is lying through his teeth. He would have a lot more to say if he actually cared about the PS3 version

  5. I was going to buy this game but when i hear ‘Xbox 360 will get DLC before the PS3′ on some games i don’t bother getting the game(like all the COD games etc etc)

  6. You are stupid if you get this game on PS3 without researching it after release. It has all the same signs as any other bad Xplat port. AND there’s the DLC thing. FIGHT WITH YOUR DOLLARS GUYS, not by complaining on a message board.

    • +1
they got paid for the DLC as they surely got paid for 360 technical advantage over the ps3
they’re not getting a dime from me.there are far too many great games to consider than this.Until i’m done with them i will buy it second hand.No need to be carried away like everyone does by the hype of it’s release date

  7. JackC8 says:

Well, we’ll see as more information comes out. I’m looking forward to the game, but if it turns out they’re giving us the shaft, there’s still PLENTY of time to cancel that pre-order. Not like we haven’t got anything else to play around that same time – Like Uncharted 3.

  8. i still don’t care. they can talk all they want about this game. they killed it for me with the timed dlc bullcrap. this is just to save face after realising that the ps3 commuity was upset. too many great games for me to buy this season. i will not be spending $$ to play second fiddle to the 360. bethesda you lost a whole lot of sales on ps3 because of your timed dlc deal, but at least you got MS’s $$ to make you feel better, hope it was worth it. bargain bin purchase from me, not a dime for you (at least from me).

  9. I’m looking forward to skyrim also, I don’t get what the big deal is about timed dlc. Let ms pay $$ for a timed exclusive for 30 days, being effing deal. I would rather have ms pay for a lame head start on dlc as opposed to actually putting money into R&D of new games. Im on the same train of thought if the PS3 version is getting shafted I’m canceling my preorder.

  10. If it smells like a port, if it tastes like a port…….

  11. themule says:

Whatever, I’ll read the reviews. The metascore is guaranteed to be inflated. I’ll play it next year when they decide to settle on a “Game of The Year the World Didn’t End Edition”.

  12. lol, all of you idiots that refuse to purchase the game based on DLC are only going to ensure that Bethesda hesitates on bringing their games to a $ony system in the future.

I love the hate! Keep it coming, children.

  13. nosferatu…. MS NEEDS this while Sony does’nt. get it right dude! sony could care less about these titles or else they’d be exclusive. MS NEEDS every little piece of shit they can get their hands on right now. they are that desperate. i won’t purchase this bcuz of the dlc shaft and bcuz there are soooo many games coming out for the ps3 that i can AFFORD TO BE PICKY, whereas you 360 ppl hardly have any choice. you need this. u need it BAD, too bad bethesda have shown that they too NEED all the extra cash that they can get their hands on, so unfortunately for you, it is also coming to the ps3, whether we even want it or not. i can assure you that the ps3 does not need this title to sell systems. we have sooo many quality AAA titles to choose from unlike Microspoof fanboys that only have like 3-5 original titles to choose from lol. i’ll keep it comin as long as you can take it buddy. there’s always kinect right?

    • 1. The proper term is “couldn’t care less.” Tool.

      2. Skyrim is a piece of shit? lol. Okay, kid. Whatever you say…

      3. What do you mean, “you 360 ppl?” I own BOTH consoles, dumbass. I usually purchase multiplatform games based on which console version is better; usually being the 360 one. FACT.

      4. You may fun of 360 fanboys, while coming off as a Sony fanboy. Hypocrite, much?

      5. You’re making fun of Kinect…as it outsells the Move at every waking moment.

Keep the idiocy coming, tool. Keep it coming…

      • It doesn’t seem as a piece of shit but if it’s anything like Oblivion it will be boooring for my tastes and many other people’s as well.
Most of us refuse to buy it not for their DLC deal with Microsoft but because it smells miles away like a port on the ps3 and i don’t know if you’re keeping up lately but most developers have already turned away from that notion for quite some time now.Your FACT is almost a thing of the past with very few exceptions like this one

  14. dude its either you only see what you want to se or you can’t read properly. only internet heroes point out grammatical errors dude. i NEVER said skyrim was a pirce of shit. i also own the three major consoles “tool”. 360 version is better in all multi-platform games? really? lol. i guess its because they are built using the lowest denominator between the two then port them over to the ps3. i am not a sony fanboy but i merely speak the truth about both systems, i was not making fun of kinect, kinect does outsell the move and that is why i said that there is hope in kinect for 360 users as microspoof is focussing mainly on kinect this year in all the trade shows. you have to be an idiot to even think that the 360 can go toe to toe with the ps3. the limitations on the 360 is what’s driving the dlc madness. ms only pays for early dlc bcuz they are afraid the ps3 ppl get it included on disc for free, hiding the fact that the 360 is falling far behind. get your facts straight “tool”
