Augmented reality allows developers to make titles that truly blur the line between what is a game and what is real, making your world the game’s world. Unfortunately, augmented games have been held back by limited technology that is clunky and unbelievable, but Sony plans to change all that with the PlayStation Vita.
While the 3DS offers enjoyable augmented mini-games using single AR cards, the Vita will support multiple cards simultaneously (Wide-Area Augmented Reality), allowing the device to have a greater understanding of depth and perspective. As you can see in the video below, the extra cards make the Vita incredibly aware of its surroundings so it can create believable pseudo-realities:
With the Vita’s impressive specs, the augmented characters look startlingly good, so we really hope that this feature is used by developers. The PS Vita can also support AR without any cards, something that Invizimals developer Novarama will be taking advantage of with Reality Fighters.

Wow..ending creepy much? lol
Hopefully, it is something that the developers actually implement into games!
Common Sony stop teasing release A 3D camera already!!!! I cant wait for PS4 xD
+ Imagine a game where there are bad guys in your home and you have to use the Vita as a gun and you have to take cover if your low on life behind a wall or a knocked over table and also you can have your friends join in, then Imagine those Guys are Zombies xD
Dude that will be FREAKING AWESOME!!!
Love it!
Oh good God! That alien was scary!
Wow I flippin cant wait to perform a full scale alien autopsy right on my desk.
D-d-dam! That is innovative. Like…system selling innovative. Like…as innovative as the Wii when it first came out. They need to get those AR games in the Vita’s lineup ASAP. Developers don’t even need to come up w/ ideas, just copy the ones from that trailer. The tank game and the alien autopsy looked mind numbing.
I remember this from The Eye of Judgement.
I feel like they’re just throwing stuff in at this point. Augmented reality doesn’t seem to work well, or maybe I just can’t run it well. The 3DS’s is fun, but still glitchy, I imagine the Vita’s won’t work as well as it shows either. I guess time will tell. I do want the Vita eventually, but wish they’d stop comparing it to the 3DS, cos I love that sytem dearly. I have a few great games, and there’s a bunch coming out soon. I am pretty excited to get the Vita and earn trophies on a portable system. This doesn’t interest me too much, I’ll probably play with it a bit, and get bored.
They used this to a degree with the psp but this is over the top badass.
