3G Downloads on the Vita Capped at 20MB

If you were planning on picking up the 3G model of the PS Vita when it launches next year, you may want to think again, as word has it downloads over the connection will be limited to 20MB.

According ASCII, courtesy of Andriasang, a Sony Japan representative reported this initial limit on downloads for the Vita over a 3G connection. Those familiar with Apple’s App Store will recall that their limit on 3G downloads is the same amount, but let’s not forget that the titles in the Vita’s library of downloadable games will likely be much larger than your typical app on the App Store.

So what does this mean? Well, it looks like those who plan on downloading games to the Vita will have to do so over a WiFi connection instead. What this also means, is that the 3G model will be even less appealing to consumers, as the supposed benefits continue to wane.

It is important to note that this is only an initial limit, as Sony has assured gamers it is possible that the cap may lifted in the future. Also, the limit may be different in different regions. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see.

What do you think? Will the 20MB limit stop you from buying a 3G model? Let us know in the comments below.
