Ubisoft: We Need to Back off Annual Assassin’s Creed Titles

10/06/2011 Written by Zak Islam

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has been receiving yearly installments for since it first released. However, publisher Ubisoft has admitted they may need to back off from annual Assassin’s Creed titles in order to come up with something fresh.

Speaking to VG247, Ubisoft’s Rafael Lacoste had this to say:

I think we have a nice process, a nice workflow. But [...] I think we need to step back, to maybe take more time to do something fresh. It’s still a big challenge, but we could make it with a little more time. The thing is, he said, people simply really like the Assassin’s Creed games, and there’s obviously demand within the market for a new game as quickly as possible. Besides, it’s not like the games’ quality has suffered: each continues to be a fine example of its genre.

Lacoste also stated:

If you make comparisons to television series; if the story’s good, they care about the characters and it’s compelling, they’re not going to complain when a seasonal TV series comes out every year, right? That’s not to say Assassin’s Creed will come out every year, but we feel like the momentum of ACII, AC Brotherhood and now AC Revelations will create a complete picture of Ezio’s life and also touch upon Altair. That’s something we wanted to do and we think the fans will enjoy it.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will launch worldwide on November 15th, 2011. Ubisoft recently confirmed another installment in the series for 2012.

sounds about right. as long as Revelations has a good closure im fine with that. hopefully they dont pull a ‘lost’ hiatus, or a confusing ending that fails.

What they need to do is CONTINUE THE NEW PRINCE OF PERSIA SERIES!!!!!!!! DO NOT leave story lines hanging GEEZ!!

  3. Yaaaaaay for a realistic point of view! I’ve gotta admit though, what they’ve been cranking out on annual release has been surprisingly good, and I’ve been wondering how the hell they’re maintaining this pace. I’ve also been wondering when it’s going to turn into the next CoD and just release with a new city and little to no new gameplay features, but I guess they’re smart enough to avoid that after all.

Yes, you absolutely do, even when you have the tech and assetts to do so. You best switch half your people to other projects then get it ready quietly and polish it up, pop it out like it is a big secret and you shall have sucess. It was such a turnoff to hear you bragging about how you could make one every year. It probably even caused me to not bother finishing off brotherhood, and hence no interest for the next in line. In fact when I started brotherhood i felt like i was playing regurgitated assassins creed 2 at first. Luckily, I stuck with it long enough to see that it had evolved and I will eventually get back to it. Even more likely to see that you have a new view on it all popping out.

I do not think I am wrong aout how I feel about their Asscreed assmbly line model, nor on what they ought to do to change it. I would be surprised if others weren’t in agreement, but that wouldnt be the first time I have been surprised. Thanks for responding.
