Developer Drinkbox Announces Guacamelee

10/19/2011 Written by Cameron Teague

Drinkbox, who is responsible for an absolute gem in Tales from Space: About a Blob, has announced a new downloadable game in development, titled Guacamelee. The game stars Mexican protagonist Juan Aguacate, who is on a mission to save everyone after the daughter of El Presidente is kidnapped by the evil Charro Skeleton.

Guacamelee takes place in a small Mexican village, where the player must travel through alternate dimensions to save the girl that he loves from certain doom.

According to developer Drinkbox:

The game draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters. They’re set on building upon the classic open-world, Metroid-vania style of games by adding a strong melee combat component, a new dimension switching mechanic, and co-operative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story.

No word has been given yet for platforms or release date, but the game will be playable at the Digifest First-Person Show on the 30th of this month. If you are not located in Toronto and you want a glimpse of the game, check out the trailer below.
