Dead Island seems to have performed well enough for developer Techland to consider producing yet another zombie-infested action game. The game definitely made an impact at retail, selling over one million copies during the official launch week, despite mixed reviews and numerous bugs. A new trademark filing has been discovered hinting that fans of the original game may be overrun fighting off the zombie horde sooner rather than later.
The Polish developer has filed a trademark for the name Dead World, the name itself implies that the game may be much larger than the island of Banoi found in the original Dead Island.
The company has declined to comment on whether the the trademark for Dead World has any relation to Dead Island at all, but it certainly seems to fit with the market trend of taking a a successful new intellectual property and turning it into a franchise. Very interesting…
Awesome. Hopefully when / if it is released, all the bugs are fixed beforehand. When they patched Dead Island however, they almost completely got rid of gamebreaking bugs with the first patch, I’ll give them that.
Dead World? Really? When the first game worked so well? They’ll need to make some drastic improvements over Dead Island and if the game is going to be larger (as the word world implies) then I doubt they’ll be able to make those changes.
