Sony Responds to October NPD, inFamous: Festival of Blood Becomes “the Fastest-Selling PS3 Digital Game Ever”

11/11/2011 Written by Sebastian Moss

While the PS3 is catching up on the 360′s install base worldwide, Microsoft’s console has consistently outsold the PS3 in the US, despite price cuts and strong first party software. After a month which saw the 360 shift 143,000 more units than the PS3, Sony have commented on their performance.

Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA, said:

PlayStation 3 is primed for a great holiday season as this month’s NPD report shows. We’re seeing increased momentum in our 1st and 3rd-party software sales at retail, which are up 5% over last year, and we’re demonstrating the industry’s strongest software line up with blockbusters like UNCHARTED 3, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Battlefield 3, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and new Move titles Everybody Dance and Carnival Island. On the digital front, we are also pleased to report that inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood is the fastest selling PS3 digital game ever launched on PSN.

We enjoyed the standalone Move-supporting Festival of Blood, so it’s great to see it sell well. But why do you think the PS3 is lagging behind the 360 in the US month after month? Let us know in the comments below.

The last game I remember being the fastest selling was Battlefield 1943. Or maybe that was most sold..
    But yeah inFAMOUS is amazing.

  2. Toxia says:

well most of the game trailers always say buy it now for the xbox 360 like thats the only system its on
im sure thats helping sell more xbox’s then ps3′s

  3. And not to mention the people with older 360s needing to replace them still.

  4. @Toxia — No kidding. EVERY GAME COMMERCIAL. Xbox 360. I had someone ask me about Skyrim. They said it made them want to get a 360 . . . . . . . . I told her she could get it for her PS3.

    • Other then PS3 exclusives… The ONLY recent commercial I can remember being advertised for PS3 was Battlefield 3…

    • I know this is not about the US what i am about to say but in ’1′ advert break in the UK i saw ’3′ Xbox 360 adverts. 1 for Kinect, 1 for MW3(Xbox 360 logo at end) & 1 from another company advertising the Xbox 360.

Anyway didn’t the PS3 sell 130/140K in Japan last month?(or something like that) So that cancels out this LoL

Because our country is full of morons.

M$ are marketing geniuses. Most game commercials ends with “buy it now on Xbox 360,” and they gave away free consoles with the purchase of a laptop. Also they’re tricking consumers into thinking multiplat games are Xbox exclusives. And now to keep games from looking better on the PS3, they release a new policy to developers. M$ are really good in playing Monopoly.

Hmm, they don’t look so “genius” to me. While M$ spends all that MONEY in making third-party games “look” as “exclusive” crapbox games, Sony uses their money to ACTUALLY GET exclusive games, by creating and buying new developing studios and working with them to make new, fresh and innovative true exclusive franchises. Who’s the genius then? I don’t think M$ strategy won’t last for another generation, it’s barely paying off this generation and almost entirely only on USA (their only remaining stronghold), while Sony will have more IPs and stronger studios with promising game libraries for generations to come. What little Microsoft had in terms of studios, they lost : Bungie is not doing Halo anymore, and Gears will be multiplat in the future (it’s 99% certain). Remember, some strong IPs will remain popular for several generations but many others will disappear and be substituted by new ones. Some games Microsoft money-hatted to get timed-exclusivity didn’t really pay off / For example, Bioshock. The game doesn’t even sell that much on the 360, even though it started as an exclusive IP. Same thing is happening with Mass Effect. You can be sure next generation many of those studios won’t make the same move of accepting M$ money to stay “exclusive”.

  7. 360 vs PS3, my take from being a PS3 only owner to a multi console owner (adding the 360)

The ps3 may have the better looking games, bluray and free online. Some PS3 games show better physics like GT5. But all that means little to nothing to the average gamer.

    Advantage: X360, here is why

As a gaming platforms the 360 interface is nothing short of perfect. Updates for games and system take less than a minute. the Live integration is flawless. from market place for games, music and movies are right there in the start up menu. as far as games go, this year multiplats and the few exclusives are MORE than enough to take head on the PS3 and beat it. What GT5 does for serious racers, Forza 3 and 4 delivers a less challenging and more rewarding experience. Uncharted 3 is great, so is Gears 3 so there is all even. MW3, BF3, Batman AC, Skyrim, Dark Souls are all available on the 360. so with the better user interface, better online integration, and with all those blockbuster games is obvious why many gamers prefer the 360.

imo if gaming online on the 360 was free, i would say the 360 is my favorite console. well actually i prefer the 360 after being a PS3 only owner. but paying for online gaming is a huge setback on what is the best all around gaming console (even thought the PS3 is capable of doing more detailed games)

    • undisputed says:

I have to agree. I play my ps3 more than my 360 only because its free online. I prefer XBL over psn anyway as far as quality. But PS has better exclusives. But I love both systems.

    • SonnyD says:

The 360 is not perfect nor flawless. It has just about the same if not more problems then the PS3. Don’t ever say a console is perfect. I don’t care what your opinion is, the 360 is far…..FAR from perfect. And no, it is not closer to perfect then the PS3.

      • i was referring to the gaming interface, you can see immediately the games you r playing, the achievements in each one, search for dlc right there, everything is so fast and smooth , specially when compared to the sloppy PSN integration

  8. Michael says:

The 360 is a great platform but at the end of the day as a gamer all I care is about games. The ps3 had a lot more than Uncharted 3 this year including DCUO, Little big planet 2, Killzone 3, Socom 4, Disgaea 4, MLB the Show 11, Yakuza 4, Hyperdimension Neptunia, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Infamous 2, Resistance 3, all the HD Collections plus all the psn games while 360 only had gears 3 and forza 4. I think is all about preference but I own every console and I find myself playing way more ps3 than 360 because of the games. Don’t get me wrong I still think xbox live is better design than psn but remember that Microsoft is a software company while sony is a hardware company. But if we are talking about what console you should buy is a no brainer, PS3.

  9. H8 says:

Fastest selling but damn sure not the best. Only sold fast cause of the name and most people probably didn’t the game only last a few hours.
Dead Nation is most def the best game on PSN. (imo)
