Ken Levine Not Too Keen on Having a BioShock Film Made

11/15/2011 Written by Alex Osborn

While the BioShock franchise is known for its atmosphere and unique story, series creator Ken Levine doesn’t appear all that into bringing the franchise to the silver screen.

In an interview with IndustryGamers, Levine explained that the status of the BioShock film and his hesitation in pushing it forward.

We got very close to having it get made – we had a deal in place and a director. But for us there’s no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made.

For us and for Take-Two, it’s really got to be something that will give the fans something that they want, and, for those who don’t know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game.

There are differences between games and movies, no doubt, but the movie has to draw from the same DNA in terms of the world and the story beats.

While it no doubt would be awesome to see a really great film based off of the underwater world of Rapture, it’s refreshing to see a developer actively protect the purity of their franchise.

I agree with him 100%. Look at what happened to Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Doom, Super Mario Bros, Double Dragon and a lot more that I won’t bother mentioning. Hollywood are infamous for destroying video game franchises with their poorly done films. If you’re gonna do it, do it right or not at all.

  2. to me hollywood has gone dumb over the years. lots of movie plots are so stupid and unrealistic in terms of human reaction to certain situations in the movies. even the police in movies are so dumb, they only show up after all the action is done. the “professional” bad guys can NEVER seem to shoot straight, they kill everyone mercilessly until they meet the main star’s girlfriend/family then take them as unnecessary hostages, when fights start the bad guys all go down with one punch (especially when they are in great numbers), people get pummeled to pulps in fights and yet there is little to no bruising on their faces in the following scenes. people go into the creepiest dark places/houses for absolutely no reason (as if they are the bravest ppl out there) then they start running and screaming when shit goes wrong/scary. i would HATE to see what they would do with bioshock, they might want to sex up the big daddies and big sisters. like the shit they did with splice. who in their right mind would have sex with a chick that had a fucking tail and ugly alien feet and a huge head with a buttcrack running down the middle of her head? btw she also mutated into a man by the end of the film – ridiculous! hollywood will kill this like they did with all the other videogame movies. mario brothers anyone??
