Introducing the PS Vita – Now in Color!
No, we’re not talking about the upcoming PlayStation Vita‘s gorgeous 5-inch OLED color display. When Sony’s newest handheld console launches this December in Japan and February in North America and Europe, it will only be available in the usual “Piano Black.” But a new video has surfaced showcasing the many colors the machine will be available in…eventually. Take a look after the jump!
The video below is in Japanese, and given Sony’s track record it will likely be quite a while until other regions see color choices like this, if ever. No word on release timing for any region has been mentioned yet either. Although the PS Vita is going to be region-free, would you pay the extra cost to import the console just for a new coat of paint?
The PlayStation Vita is set to release on December 17th in Japan, and February 22nd in North America and Europe.

I like that sick yellow color but I’ll be fine with black. I’d prefer matter black over piano black though.

I’d love one of the purple or orange ones, but I don’t think I can wait for them to hit the UK. It’ll be months, perhaps even a year or more.

If ever… I mean look at the PS3, aside from the Gunmetal Grey in the MGS4 bundle we havn’t had any other colors in the US… Or we’ll get it near the end of it’s life ala PSP style.

i dont see why they dont sell all the colors right off the bat. they can obviously make them, i think the sales would be better if you can get the color you want with your first psv and not wait until we get some options. or you should at least be able to order one from sonystyle in the color you want. i wouldnt mind doing that. every electronic item i buy is black and it’s making my house kinda depressing. come’on sony, bring some color into my life.
I really like the lighter blue one. Unfortunately, I’m not waiting to get it. I’ll be pre-ordering them soon (one for me, one for my boyfriend) and if black is all that have, ah well. I was hoping for at least a white one too, but maybe they’re just worried the system won’t sell and they don’t want to invest in making all the colors (I’m sure it’d be a pain to get the bar codes, materials, etc for them). Surely they’re probably worried since the 3DS didn’t do well their own handheld may fail as well. I know, the 3DS had a crap launch lineup, that was Nintendo’s biggest fault, but still, I’m sure that has crossed their mind.
I don’t really like the clear plastic faceplate look so I would have to go with the white or stick with black…they will never come to the US anyway so I won’t need to make a choice. The only choice in color Sony has given anyone outside of Japan is a white PSPgo, which I have, and I’ve never understood why they bother doing it just for the one region.
